That's not for the GT or Armageddon but for hurricanes, tornados, tsunamis, earthquakes, which events have caught the WTS with their pants down.

Starting just after Katrina the WTS put out a list of what to do (basically a copy of FEMA's) and directed the elders to know how to contact people in their congregation (wow what an idea), phone numbers, addresses, perhaps even their first names and children's names.

ABS said- BTW a go-bag refers to bags that military and emergency response members keep filled with clothes and toiletries in case they are deployed ASAP.

Yup, it's actually quite important for military members, where at least quarterly we participated in phone recalls at 3 am, where the idea was if you got a call you had to call the next person down the chain and put on a uniform and grab the bag, and you had an hour to sign in on base (the last person on the list had to call the first, to make sure everyone was notified, skipping anyone they couldn't contact by phone). It was the worst-kept secret that a drill was coming soon, so there was no excuse to be caught off-guard (by being out-of-the-area, unless you were on leave).

Of course, it's done to maintain a readiness stance, to be prepared. It kept the troops on their toes.

I'm surprised JWs haven't started a system for a quarterly phone recall drill, where within a 48 hour window all JWs are told to report at the KH in two hours, LOL! It's one way to create a false sense of urgency in "these (permanent) last days", and anyone who doesn't play along is going to lose brownie points with the elders, as an 'attitude check'.

EDIT: LOL! we posted at the same time, and in Blondie's post I see the WT already has told the elders to have a congregation phone list, so they're all set to go for KH recall drills....

Just at your meeting. Our "local needs" were significantly different, but still a WTF topic.

Sounds like a reminder that it's "every man for himself," when you are a member of this organization. There will be no emergency assistance coming down from the tower.

If you are in a disaster area then there is logic to having a go bag.

However the day you have to replace expired items in your go bag is the day you need to question why the end hasn't come. I wonder how many times they replace items before they realise how long the end is in coming it is certainly a way to reinforce the passage of time. I suspect the bags themselves will wear out and people still won't see the light.
