The other day an elder mentioned that not following the GB direction is the same as rebelling against God.

Imagine what YOU could do if you could convince others that disobeying you was the same as disobeying God.

Q: Moses allegedly performed miracles. What "signs" do the GB have as evidence that God backs them?

    A: Zero.

    Blondie,

Is that the sole basis that governing body claims authority? A lose analogy with the disciples?

Actually, mrhhome, the phrase "governing body" never occurs in the bible even the NWT and the RNWT. The word "government" doesn't appear either. The Insight books only discuss terms in the bible, there is not section on "governing body." The WTS often pulls their explanation out of their backside rather than the bible.

Until 1971 the GB was the 7 directors of the board of the WTS.

    *** w77 1/1 p. 15 par. 16 Serving with the Faithful “Slave” ***

To meet further demands of expansion, it was arranged in 1971 to increase the number of “older men” serving as the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses from seven (the directors of the Watch Tower Society) to a total of eleven members.

    *** w77 8/1 p. 463 New Watch Tower President Elected ***

Acting on a united recommendation by all fifteen members of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses, the directors of the two corporations held a joint meeting on June 22, 1977, at which Frederick W. Franz was elected president of both corporations by unanimous vote.

How does a top-down organization that claims to take a literal view of the Bible survive without any justification of their authority?

If you disagree with the governing body, and fail to obey their dictates, you are in open rebellion against the watchtower god.

This will result in the watchtower god doing nothing, for it is an idol that is blind and mute.

Logically you cannot disagree with the GB without disagreeing with the god of the GB.

The god of the GB is our self-appointed step-father, the "god of religion", aka Satan the Devil.

He transforms himself into an angel of light, but when scrutinised and questioned is revealed to be an imposter, pretending to be the "God of Abraham".

It is no accident that those following the "god of religion" are led away from the "God of Abraham" and away from his liberating message, the explicit and unabridged gospel (or "Good News").

Feel free to disagree with the gb.

But find a god who agrees with you. There's millions of them.
