The guy wants a good roofer, doesn't check to see if the good roofer is "in good standing" because "Of course he's still an active JW. Why wouldn't he be?"

This falls under the stupid category--they don't keep up-to-date records. I got a voice mail from a talk coordinator two weeks ago asking if I had anyone who could give a talk in his congregation the following Sunday. I became inactive in 2007 and was disfellowshipped in 2009.

It smells like a a setup to me, roof assignment turns into prolonged back room meeting.

Tell them your fee is 100.00 an hour and see what they say.

"There are no desperate situations, only desperate people."

So, I would say that as part of the RBC he made a committment and then failed to find someone to complete the task. He pulled out his rolodex and saw a roofer a made the call. Happens all the time. It doesn't matter what spiritual state the person is in, after all, being on the roof of a KH might encourage him to go inside when he climbs down.
