same mujaheddin story like in afghanistan all over again. usa supports "al qaeda" against the russian backed government and some time later they realize it probably wasn't that much of a good idea.

J.Hofer - heard the exact same comment made on a Politics discussion program the other evening.

The only thing has has prevented USA from going in sooner is the stand off with Russia and China. too big to bully.

lines have been drawn, will be interesting to see how it all un-folds.

Beware of 'unintended consequences.' Just one example - there are thousands of rebel groups and they are largely untrained and incompetent. There are concerns that if the USA sent more sophisticated weapons they could fall into the hands of Islamic extremists.

Fortunately we have a president who thinks 10 steps ahead, rather than just going in to 'bomb, bomb, bomb' everything in sight.

oh he might just go bomb mode now. wag the dog.

To answer your question...... no the West is not in danger. This is an area of the world that fights one another continuously. Frankly Iran is the main power at this time. China needs Iran's oil so it is backing Syria as does Russia. We've been supplying the rebels for a while now. It's their war to win or lose not ours. It's a Civil war with Sunnis and Shiites fighting one another for the umpteenth time. If you have noticed we don't do civil wars very well (re Vietnam) including our own. By the way this uprising started back in 1980. They kill so many on both sides that they have to wait for another generation to grow up to resume the fighting.

Here is what the United Nations wants to do in Syria.

Renews Appeal for Access to Syria

The Iranian election was democratic. Surely not all democratic elections will work in America's favour.

Giordano - are you not aware of the hatred towards USA and UK from Islamic peoples, due to the previous invasions and the drone attacks in pakistan.

When a soldier gets his head cut off in the street in borad daylight by Radicals, who have 'hatred' and no fear, there is a problem.

Looks like UK and Russia very chummy chummy now, good job.

A President who wants to arm the rebels, who are largely made up of Al Qaeda. !

Putin is definitely in charge now and he is calling the shots.

Britain has just recenlty had a very sobering wake up call, a warning from Radical Islamic nutters, born and bred in her own country.

America has not got the power she once had. The world is a very different place.

I would say right about now, Israel is shaking in her booties.

Things could get very interesting indeed.
