Iran, new elections. West hating Ayatollah cleric rules the country, full support to Syria, Russian support.

What a mess it all looks to be.

Yes, Syria is now a much bigger problem than it was a few weeks ago. US Domestic developments have finally reached the point of needing a distraction. Syrian conflict has suddenly become a top priority in the last few days. The reluctant Obama realisation that Assad was using WMDs. After 90,000+ deaths from plain old bombs and bullets, the US says, okay now that you have used a WMD to kill a couple of hundred of your own people we will "do something" .

Turkey, our solid NATO ally, now has it's own internal mess.

The perfect storm of mideast turmoil is brewing quickly, and we are still not clear on how to back up our rhetoric. Sending in light arms to the rebels would be a ludicrous gesture at this point. Air support, heavy artillery and "US advisors" is called for now. NATO is not exactly ready to step in.

Obama has bungled every one of these "lead from behind" situations and the radical islamists are emboldened to take advantage of the opportunities for meaningful control.

Satunus - no democratic elections over there.

the Iraninan president doesn't hold any real power, the clerics do, they ayatollah says who can apply to run for the presidency.

It's a toughie, morally, the Syrian situation. it's hard to see that people are suffering, but it's also hard to say whether or not other countries should get involved in another war, in a country which has really powerful allies.

I don't think ordinary everyday people have the stomach for any more war.

What should be done, intervention, or stay the hell out ?

If America wants to 'go in' should the rest of the world say 'off with you, your on your own on this one though ?

Here is what some are talking about

    .

    And here.

Some of those presenting these things have their own agenda. But the Russian and Chinese angst is real.

I heard that Obama is going to send light arms to the rebels. This will only serve to escalate a very violent situation. The U.S needs to stay out of this conflict.

US arguement is that Russia has already given 'heavy artillery'

If Russia takes the opposing side to the UK and US in this conflict how will it not have a negative impact on the relationship we currently have with Russia?

    How concerned should we be?
