Who cares what he did in the past. The US record on being "fair" to black disadvantaged citizens is deplorable. If he was a white girl like Lindsey Lohan, he probably wouldn't have convictions.
He did a good thing and deserves the recognition for it. Having people be afraid to help would be a very bad thing.
I was discussing this hero with an uber-dub yesterday. She said to me "It doesn't matter"...as in it doesn't matter, because everything is vanity and striving after the wind, this guy isn't a JW, so it doesn't matter what he did. I turned to look at her and said "It mattered very much to these girls." I was disgusted and sickened by her fanatical fatalistic attitude.
