Afew years ago an Elder at a Witness gathering decided to dress sort of like Elvis...i mean he had a white suit and big belt with sunglasses...called his wife Pracilla etc. Big deal...he sang love me tender..etc. All the Witnesses clapped and cheered. Well the Pharasee's (Elders) had a freakout!! Elvis was immoral blah blah. When called into the judical commitee the Elder said he didnt feel like he did anything wrong...instead of falling to his knees and begging for mercy...he lost his position for afew years.

I wonder what they did to the sisters that portrayed Jezebel one year in the DC drama? This drama was also done at the September 8, 1974 Gilead graduation. Or the one that portrayed Potiphar's wife?

Now you can see why costume parties bit the dust for jws. (we had several, attended by elders, no one showed up as a woman, and no women as men) But the WTS encourages costume dramas at "family worship." Does this mean that no immoral people in the bible can be portrayed?

Fine oversight of a social gathering includes its planning and preparation. This does not require devising a catchy theme to make it unique or memorable but which would imitate worldly parties, such as costume balls or masquerade parties. Can you imagine faithful Israelites in the Promised Land planning a party where all were to dress like pagans in Egypt or another land? Would they plan sensuous dancing or wild music that might be the rage among pagans? Back at Mount Sinai, they did get ensnared in music and dancing such as may have been current and popular in Egypt. We know how God and his mature servant Moses viewed that entertainment. (Exodus 32:5, 6, 17-19) Hence, the host or overseer of a social event should consider whether there will be any singing or dancing; and if so, he should be sure that it is consistent with Christian principles.—2 Corinthians 6:3.

Sadly, however, not all those claiming to love Jehovah have always honored him and given clear evidence that they have rejected worldly desires or ways. It is reported that certain dedicated Christian men attended a masquerade party dressed as women. Could such behavior be considered unworldly or an honor to Jehovah? Surely, actions of that kind are not what we would expect of those who are “no part of the world.” (John 15:19) Why, under most circumstances a man wearing a woman’s wig and clothing would not only appear effeminate but also open the way to propositions for unnatural sex use by other men!—Deuteronomy 22:5.

    *** w10 6/15 pp. 27-28 par. 13 Find Refreshment in Spiritual Things ***

Family Worship evening should not be a dry, somber occasion. After all, we worship “the happy God,” and he wants us to be joyful in our worship. (1 Tim. 1:11; Phil. 4:4) Having an extra evening to discuss spiritual gems from the Bible is a real blessing. Parents can be flexible in their teaching methods, using imagination and ingenuity. For example, one family allowed their ten-year-old son, Brandon, to present a report entitled “Why Did Jehovah Use a Snake to Represent Satan?” This issue had bothered Brandon because he loves snakes, and he was upset that they were associated with Satan. Some families have occasionally put on Bible dramas, with each member of the family playing a character, reading his part from the Bible, or acting out an event. Not only are these teaching methods fun but they can keep your children involved, so that Bible principles can touch their heart.

Blondie, I remember the Jezebel drama. A friend of ours played Jezebel and had a riot vamping for the role. The whole audience laughed and applauded several times.

I would never have been sucked into today's Watchtower Society. A major attraction for me was the sense of community. How can you have a community when the beat down anything that remotely looks like fun?

that's an interesting point. It seemed more community like years ago. Now it's more like a high security prison
