It's called "compartmentalization".
Right-wing politicians are, IMO, particularly good at it; it explains why they can stand on the "family values" platform whilst keeping secret meth-filled fetish dungeons and vacationing with rentboys.
I think it's a characteristic of authoritarian leader personalities; it would explain why they don't seem to experience cognitive dissonance like the rest of us.
Hell, I suspect that it's such second nature for the GB that they scratch their heads over regular rank-and-filers' inability to do it...
