Since the end is a long way off, the GB know that California will fall into the ocean. Real estate prices will skyrocket.

GB: LORD, LORD!! DID WE NOT BUILD 10 MILLION DOLLAR CONVENTION CENTERS IN YOUR NAME?!!

LORD: No dumb-asses, you didn't. My name is Jesus....

Who is going to buy a 3000 seat auditorium in the middle of nowhere for $10 million+?
What possible use could it serve for non-JWs?

    It`s sitting on 58 acres..

    58 ACRES!!..

Does a 3000 seat auditorium need 58 ACRES??!!..

    Change the zoneing..Subdivide the land..

    Sell the auditorium seperately..

Turn it into a Office Building,Up scale gym..Whatever..

The WBT$ didn`t buy the property to keep it..

    JW`s bought the Property..

So the WBT$ could Flip it and keep the money..

    JW`s just don`t know it..

    OK 58 acres...

It is surrounded by millions of acres of cows grazing.

You could buy 1000 acres there for far less than $10 million.

Who is going to drive 45 minutes to go to a gym?

Who is going to locate their business in the middle of nowhere, even if it has interstate access?

    There is nothing there.

JWs use it for a few hours on the weekend then go home. They are cheap as dirt.

No retail is going to spring up because of this.

At best there might be an extra Mcdonalds or 2 that sprouts up nearby to satisfy the typical JW craving for grease.

Maybe the GB's connections have given them some good intel about future developments the City or State is planning. 10-20 years from now, which sadly will pass in the blink of an eye, the situation may be different. Maybe it will be a storage facility for the UN Library?

did anybody else think the maths was optimistic?

Church officials have touted the economic impact of the project, which is expected to host 40 two-day events each year. The estimated total attendance is expected to be 190,000 visitors a year, with each person spending an estimated $66 per day.

Will a family of 4 attending a 2 day assembly release $500+ into the local economy?

The WTS. has millions sitting in bank accounts all over the world.

They are fighting the Candace Conti case because they don't like outside governments enforcing laws, direction and guidelines

in their operation as a individual run religion.

In similar fashion to the Catholics, they have been trying to handle cases of pedophilia internally, away and separate from any outside control.

Columbia, itself, is the middle of nowhere. This is, therefore, is a bedroom community of nowhere. The estimate of $66 per person per day seems about right, though: night at the Red Roof and a few meals -- breakfast at McDo, supper at the Appleby's clone...

That is a joke! They will not spend that much money during those weekends. I live in an area that hasn't been hit as hard by the economy as the rest of the country and there are very few JW's that go out to eat after an assembly or SD. They are told to bring their lunch and not go to a restraunt during lunch but stay in and socialize. After the program most go directly home with a few going out to dinner on the second night.
