Charles Taze Russell's family was Scottish Presbyterian.

    Then, Congregational.

    Then, Adventist/neo Russellism.

The intellectual rigor was very flirtatious of Independent Thinking.

Fact is, Russell was a magpie. He flitted here and there cherry-picking what appealed to him.

Doctor Victor Frankenstein would be proud of him.

From the dead bodies of other religious groups Russell assembled his very own monster and breathed life into it.

The Watchtower was started for the express purpose of creating a publishing BUSINESS and not a religion.

What Russell wanted was to be heard and believed.

All the rest fell into his lap because he attracted people who were LIKE HIMSELF: easily convinced by weird ideas.

Terry, you have nailed it down. However, the Watchtower is now deeply into real estate development in addition to publishing business.I think, its a clever business model. If you sell a book, then you also need to manage the meeting places where those like minded congregate to read the same book. Sounds like a perfect plan. Isn't it?

I have found references to WT literature stating as such (as recently as June, 2011). How many R&F slept through this part of the meeting? Do most know that Jesus' promise(s) only apply to the annointed?

....Or do they read the Bible believing it applies to them too (like those other Christians)

    Hi Never Knew!

My last WT library CD is from 2007. If you can provide a recent reference to this I would REALLY appreciate it. I would love to have something more recent.

The active members that I have brought this up with, claimed to not know anyting about it at all. Even some elders that I talked to didn't know. Most elders do know though I think. This is a REALLY under-exposed feature of WT theology in my opinion.

Yes; They want it both ways.

    Thanks,

    Got it Thanks!

These have not received “the free gift of
righteousness” with heavenly life in view
“through the release by the ransom paid by
    Christ Jesus.”

That's only true because of Watchtower Lies. I've got a thousand dollars if they can provide ONE NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURE that shows how a person can now get their sins forgiven while outside of the new covenant.

Nevertheless, they exercise deep faith in God and his
provisions, and they manifest their faith
by good works. One such work is that of
“preaching the kingdom of God . . . and
teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus
Christ.” (Acts 28:31) Thus, Jehovah can
view these as righteous in the sense that he
    did Abraham.

No he CAN'T! Abraham believed God and none other. If he were alive today he would BELIEVE and obey Jesus and accept the cup that contains the symbolic "blood of the covenant" for the forgiveness of sins... and not believe someone else.

“Drink out of it, all of YOU; for this means my ‘blood of the covenant,’ which is to be poured out in behalf of many for forgiveness of sins. Mt. 26:27-28 (NWT)

The apostle Paul taught the same thing:

By means of him we have the release by ransom through the blood of that one, yes, the forgiveness of [our] trespasses Eph. 1:7 (NWT)

The Watchtower goes on to teach:

The gift such ones receive —friendship with God — differs from “the free
gift” the anointed receive. Yet, it certainly is a
gift that they accept with deep gratitude.

Now isn't that the most Beautiful-Giftwrapped-Satanic-Dung you ever heard?

It "differs" in the fact that such ones receive the due recompense for their sin in Hell because of being talked out of a "free gift" by a slick talking snake.

There is only one offer for forgiveness of sins now on the table for mankind. IT IS THE SAME ONE TAUGHT BY THE APOSTLES AND CANNOT BE CHANGED OR ALTERED IN ANY WAY:

"even if we or an angel out of heaven were to declare to YOU as good news something beyond what we declared to YOU as good news, let him be accursed". - Gal. 1: 8 (NWT)

Perry, Likewise, Iam leaning toward this line of thinking.
