It's the holidays! You aren't a JW, but are you still a killjoy?

Didn't you spend enough time sucking the fun out of the holidays? Why do a minority of ex-JWs still need to point out self-righteously that the origins of these celebrations are sometimes less than desirable?

Yes, we all know that the American Indian was not treated well by the white man. But this is a time for families to build traditions together and be thankful for the good things in our lives.

Yes, we realize that Jesus was probably not all that he has been made out to be in the Bible. But let the kids enjoy the presents, the pageantry, and the wonder of this time of year!

If you want to be a party pooper then go back to the Watchtower Society! If people are this annoying as former Witnesses I can only imagine how grating they were as full-fledged brainwashed cult members.

I'm guilty as charged, although my problem is probably more related to misanthropy than principle. I see the word Thanksgiving and immediately think Thanks-taking. They got some casino money and alcohol out of it though. Their imagery is on hockey shirts and football helmets, so its not all bad. I hate Christmas, stupid holiday. Even more stupid commercials and stupid songs. Its all so annoying.

I agree! I no longer consider myself to be a christian, and the religious side of Christmas doesn't mean anything to me, but I still intend to enjoy it to the fullest of my abilities

    Theo/Miz,

You'll change when you have someone to share the holidays with.

I don't get into xmas in a big way but I do swap cards and buy gifts for close friends.

Christmas is an amazing time of year. The joy it brings my son shows me how much I missed out on. Pagans have their festive seasons, Christians do, the Israelites did. It is a human need that the Watchtower has ignorantly taken away from peoples lives.

For those that hate the cost, that is your issue. It is not necessary to have outlandish gift giving; it is the family, friends and ritual that make it such a special time.

I think we where bred to find fault with any and everything non WT Org it feeds ego and makes you feel more knowledgable and better than others.

That mentality is hard to break. It doesn't matter frivolous origins of holidays, why did Jehovah tell Moses to have Israelites bow to copper snake?

And you can't put gifts around a tree? Come on

I don't care what the origins of christmas, birthdays, whatever are. I totally embrace them. Though this year I'm not in a very christmasy mood, it's to do with the tough year but I'll get into it.

Got to get BoneyMified and put the tree up and then I'll feel some stirrings.

So God is frowning disapprovingly at your Christmas presents and Xmas trees for the kiddies, but ignores millions of malnourished children and families living in abject poverty and deprivation and war-torn lives. JW's and pseduo-ex JW's need to take their finger out of their *ss and get some perspective on life's priorities.
