New James Bond Film: Skyfall

I had an opportunity to see Skyfall in the theater yesterday. It's almost as good as Casino Royale, with some parts of it being even better.

The opening sequence was a real thrill, one of the best. Javier Bardem does a masterful job at playing the bad guy. The cinematography (Deakins) is pretty amazing, especially in two sequences that take place in China.

Sam Mendes directs this one, and he gives long-time Bond fans several juicy nuggets that they will appreciate. The overall tone of the film is less gimmicky than many previous Bond films, without being too dark.

I wouldn't mind seeing it again, and I would give it an 8 or an 8.5 out of 10, on the Bond scale.

What did you guys think about it?

I got to see it for free at a "sneak preview".

I've never been much of a Bond fan, but for free, why not?

I was pleasantly surprised - it was far more entertaining than I expected.

For a Bond fan, it is a must-see.

Even if you are rather indifferent as I was, you'll get your money's worth.

My brother told me it was the movie of the year, but he says that after seeing every blockbuster action film. A coworker who is a geek's geek, proclaimed the same but said he needs to watch the Dark Knight one more time before saying with certainty that Skyfall is the one. I am curious about Javier's character as he's a damn good actor. I heard he's gay in this one.

Bardem is quickly becoming one of the top 10 actors working today, IMHO. He disappears into his characters. His hair, his scary hair!

Great movie. Saw it a couple of weeks back, loved the re-appearance of the Aston Martin.

IMHO, the best-ever Bond film. A good story line sees a flawed Bond battle with his demons.

Tim touched on something I read somewhere, something about James making certain decisions, certain rationalizations if you will that are not typical of the Bond we've known throughout the years.

Definitely on my must see list. I rarely watch movies out in the theater anymore, but plan on watching this one.

I'm over Craig. This is Bond, not Bourne.

Bring on Idris Elba, or someone else with the Connery animal magnetism.

    Just sayin' (flame away).
