After transcending the mind and ego, what is left seems to be almost a generic awareness. It's still individual, but, shorn of the mind products and all the fears and needs of the ego, it's closer to a blank slate. Along the lines of reincarnation, an almost pure spirit entity is poured into a carnal body. Personality derives from the body's genetics and experiences. It's not surprising that you have the ability to become that on which you focus.
