Interesting that George Washington should have so much admiration - wasn't he a pom?George Washington's ancestor, John Washington, emigrated to Virginia in 1657. George was born in 1731. Since he was born on British territory he was in fact a British subject (as you put it so sulimely "a Pom").
Thus the first president of the U.S. was indeed British. One of our more famous traitors.
