Saw him with designs and friends with Van Morrison and Joni Mitchell. He had just won grammy and was in a very playful mood, and was excellent. I think this was maybe 10 years ago...dunno, I think the "Time Out of Mind" album. Great album and I think his recent stuff is every bit as good as the early stuff. The music is more rockabilly...the last one is with Los Lobos...I think it's great.

I saw him again 3 years ago or so, and he wasn't as animated or engaging...and was more on the muffled side, but the music was great...

I recall seeing all these famous bands at the Fillmore East and other NY venues on a high school student's salary.

Did anyone read Chronicles? I enjoyed it very much. Not certain I know much biographical info from Dylan but the read was pure pleasure. He has a way with words. I wonder what his high school English teachers thought?

My love of Dylan goes back to my pre-jw days. Over the years I've had Dylan records and cassettes, CD and DVDs. Recently I purchase Bob Dylans Greatest hits volume III and a DVD about his life. What a character. I don't know if you saw the episode of "Pawn Stars" where Chumlee went looking around Las Vegas to have him sign an Album for him but it was very funny. Dylan must like the show or he wouldn't have agreed to be on it. He hosts a show on Sirius Satalite radio I listen to when ever I can.

If I heeded his advise I may have been able to avoid listening to the Watchotower" Don’t follow leaders

    Subterranean Homesick Blues

    Johnny’s in the basement
    Mixing up the medicine
    I’m on the pavement
    Thinking about the government
The man in the trench coat
    Badge out, laid off
Says he’s got a bad cough
Wants to get it paid off
    Look out kid
    It’s somethin’ you did
    God knows when
    But you’re doin’ it again
You better duck down the alley way
    Lookin’ for a new friend
The man in the coon-skin cap
    By the big pen
    Wants eleven dollar bills
    You only got ten

    Maggie comes fleet foot
    Face full of black soot
    Talkin’ that the heat put
    Plants in the bed but
    The phone’s tapped anyway

    Orders from the D.A.

    Don’t matter what you did
    Walk on your tiptoes
    Don’t try “No-Doz”
    Better stay away from those

    Keep a clean nose
    Watch the plain clothes

To know which way the wind blows

    Get sick, get well
    Hang around a ink well
    Ring bell, hard to tell
If anything is goin’ to sell
    Try hard, get barred
    Get back, write braille
    Get jailed, jump bail
Join the army, if you fail
    Look out kid
    You’re gonna get hit
    But users, cheaters
    Six-time losers
    Hang around the theaters
    Girl by the whirlpool
    Lookin’ for a new fool
    Don’t follow leaders
    Watch the parkin’ meters

    Ah get born, keep warm
Short pants, romance, learn to dance
    Get dressed, get blessed
    Try to be a success
Please her, please him, buy gifts
    Don’t steal, don’t lift
    Twenty years of schoolin’
And they put you on the day shift
    Look out kid
    They keep it all hid
    Better jump down a manhole
    Light yourself a candle
    Don’t wear sandals
    Try to avoid the scandals
    Don’t wanna be a bum
    You better chew gum
    The pump don’t work
’Cause the vandals took the handles

I'm watching "No Direction Home" in short bursts these days. I saw Bob at Newport and I was on the street in Greenwich Village during that time.

Love that stuff! Brings back memories.

"Like a Rolling Stone" my memory is summer afternoon at the community swimming pool in Ojai. They played the local AM radio station KACY(Ventura I think) over the loud speaker...it was cool because it was the only radio station we had, and EVERYBODY in Ventura Co listened to it. So if you dedicated a song to someone...EVERYBODY knew it. I digress)

It was a perfect day, even for a 9 yr old. I remember the moment vividly.

    Stillin,

I was too young to see him in his early Village days. Please tell us about Newport. I miss folk music.

Does anyone have a favorite later album?

When I heard that Bob Dylan, the Great Legend, was doing cadillac commercials I laughed so hard. Ah, how he cuts through the beliefs about the poet of his generation - maybe several generations. All the music I grew up with I liked at the time but I never thought it would last. I gave the Beatles three years at the most. My doctor played Girl of the North Country recently. It is so beautiful. Nice than things seemed to have improved with age.

I read about Newport in the Village Voice. Heard about Bob Dylan, then the NYT covered the controversy. It was a while before I heard Dylan b/c the top forty did not play him.

Maggie's Farm reminds me of the Witnesses.
