A very close friend of mine is giving a public talk around may about the Bible. He asked me to help him out (of course not knowing where i stand with everything). A perfect opportunity! I have ideas but "In the multitude of counselers...", you know the rest.

So I need some scriptures and thoughts that the friends should look to Bible as final answer, not Wt articles. And something refreshing instead of the "your sad because you didnt donate enough" and other garbage.

What are some things I can use to help wake him up, and wake up people in the audience without ringing any apostate bells, using sound Biblical reasoning?

    Thanks so much!

Could you be more specific as to the specific topic or title?

Your friend should go up to the podium, clear his throat, adjust the microphone, then say "This is all a literature selling scam out of hand". Then he should walk out, go to the bar and get really drunk. Wake up the next morning and try not to regret the years wasted that gave him a chance to give the talk.

I always liked the way LittleToe gave his last talk:

Slient; Ypur friend will not have any room to dieviate

from the outline. Every public talk given by Elders

and specially today ( with Apostates lurking everywhere)

are to adhere closely to the outline. And if this is

his first talk, he will be watch closely. Any thing that sound

Apostate, he will be promply escorted from the platform.

Control, control this is the name of the game.

Gentle reminders, such as to 'never go beyond what is written' in the Bible (1Cor 4:6), may be helpful, since JWs do it on almost every subject.

The same idea is derived from 2Ti 3:16, "All scripture is inspired of God, and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness..." Witnesses hear this scripture all the time, but rarely apply it.

Much more emphasis is given to what the Governing Body says than the Bible, and the Governing Body itself is a concept that 'goes beyond what is written', since it is not found in the Scriptures.

Even though he will have to stick to the prescribed outline in giving the talk, you might be able to make inroads in getting him to think, and to see that Witness beliefs and concepts are sometimes not based on the Bible at all.

The Bible is a human book. Each writer was addressing their own immediate community with the intention of affecting the behaviour of that community. It is therefore critical to understand what each piece of writing meant to that community at the time it was written -- their culture, concepts, understandings, idioms, the contemporary secular and religious politics, etc.

It also means that we are reading only one point of view, so some is propaganda. Few of the OT people could read, and even fewer could write. Most of the OT was written shortly before and during the neo-Babylonian Captivity.

The list of NT books was decided by the dominant section of the Church during the fourth century CE, in collusion with the Roman Emperors. The accepted list was first drawn up in the 4th century CE by the Trinitarian Athansius. Unfortunately, not only did they select writings that suited their viewpoint, but they made serious mistakes. Several of the accepted writings were written long after the supposed authors had died. As one example, Paul did not write 2 Timothy; another example are the writings wrongly attributed to Peter.

Then we have the numerous deliberate and accidental changes during centuries of editing. So much so, that it is impossible to know what was originally written. Consider also the differences between the MT and the LXX (Jeremiah, especially), as well as the differences between them and the DSS texts. There is no evidence that God bothered to protect the text.

I suggest that your friend distribute printed copies of his speech at the start of his presentation.
