    To me it doesn't matter if it had been ok previously. Rules change. You have to go with the flow if you wanna stay employed.

    It's union, so they have a contract, and the contract sets the "rules." If the contract says Hertz will contact the union before taking any action against employees, that's what they have to do.

    If Hertz wants to change this rule, then Hertz must re-negotiate the contract.

    According to the article, they were not fired.

    Also per the article, the company enacted a new policy, so it was no secret, just a surprise. The union is not complaining they didn't know of the change, just that they were improperly notified.
