Maybe I am off base, but it seems that the last year or so hasn't had the standard retoric about how "imminent, close, or soon" the end will be. It seems as if the focus is now on obeying the Governing Body.
Have you noticed this?
Have you noticed that the Watchtower is not emphasizing how close the end is as much?

Yes, actually, I have. The 2009 DC used the word "imminent" to describe the nearness of the big A multiple times in every talk. From then on, it seems like the "imminence" has been shoved into the background. So what does "imminent" mean? About to start or moments away. Let's see...that was more than two years' worth of moments ago! So when does use of the word "imminent" constitute LYING????
And, yes again, stuckinamovement, the unquestioning submission to the GB has become the hue and cry of late. It would be interesting if it weren't so sad and scary...

They are probably emphasizing obeying the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger now. They realize that, unless most people are obeying the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger, harping on the end is going to do little good--and, if they are focused on the authority of the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger, the closeness of the end might be taking a little vacation.
But, I am not too worried. Soon it will be back in the foreground. That the end has to be within a few years is a must in these religions, and they will play up 2012. Then, once 2012 is gone, they will play on 2014. They are probably getting ready to roll these years out as the end of this system of things--all the while trying to look reasonable to those in the world.

Doing a Chicken little "the sky is falling !" has served them well for 130 years as a motivator and fear technique.
It seems to come in waves, so just wait a while, 2034 is when they will have the ultimate problem, unless they have demoted 1914 long before then, but the difficulty is going to be attracting new recruits without a fear factor, why should any sane person choose them if the End is not close ?
They will have to roll it back out again soon, pathetic prats.

Now that they are placing credit card machines in Assembly Halls, more JW in the "high" at conventions will donate larger funds and get more in debt and then JWs will wish more than ever for the "end."
There does seems to be more articles and talks about having "endurance" and "coping" now-a-days. And then also, they are busy selling all those 30 Brooklyn properties and re-building upstate NY to distract and excite them, yet still slipping to them because "end is so soon" here and there. All a contradiction in their lives.
