Well, being a sexually abused child, having learned to fix a car and cooking from my pedophile dad is not enough to balance out the abuse. I know I could have learned those things in a healthier group and manner.

Let's not fool ourselves, almost all if not all the things we considered positive, we could have learned apart from the WTS.

I owe them being more familiar with the Bible. I was originally Catholic and I know absolutely nothing about the Bible then.

To be honest, being a faithful Witness kept me out of a lot of trouble in my teen years. I did absolutely no drugs, and didn't drink. It also helped me to be a good speaker and not afraid of speaking in groups or being intimidated when giving presentations at work. Understanding things like gestures, eye contact, and being clear and using material that fits the theme actually help in the "real world."

On the other hand, I still find myself not fitting in with people who are not Witnesses. My therapist has helped with this immensely.

I also wish I could have played sports and gone to college immediately out of High School. But why would you want to get a job at a restaurant with a "Going out of business" sign in the window? I mean, Armageddon being so close and all.........That was over 20 years ago.

I believe the public speaking training is an absolute fallacy, some of the very worst public speakers I've ever heard in my entire life were elders who were probably on the platform weekly for decades.

    1) The repressed sexuality of JW's has boosted the porn industries income, and in turn " stimulated " the economy and provided jobs.

    2) I saved alot of money by not pursuing higher education.....???

    3) Not being afraid to be different. That is good no matter who you are.

    4) I learned not to be selfish with my time. To be fair I believe that was because of old school family values, not really because of being a dub. There are plenty of people besides dubs who help others.

    5) Learning how NOT to behave towards people of other religions ( That took awhile, and they taught my by their bad example and negativity. )

After reading Blondi's comment I have to agree. We are who we are despite the Organization, not because of it. Wanting to believe that it is a spiritual paradise is a fantasy. I see a few people attracted to the Organization, but I think it is individuals in a particular congregation that attract new ones. Would they have come into the org in another part of the world? It's hard to say, but still a little good from individuals doesn't change all the lies.
