I think she was caught off guard, but, according to Paul Revere's account, she was historically accurate.
He wrote it, she said it, and that's the fact of the matter.
Whoever wants to say "she meant this, he meant that, this guy says this, this guy says that" doesn't change anything, except for those who fall for that kind of persuasion.
