It doesn't make any sense, Water.

None of it does, when you really think about it.

I'm in what is called the Black Belt of Alabama due to the dark color of the soil.

I used to rub the black soil into my skin in hopes that I would turn darker and she would accept me.

Hey, I was only a kid.

OH, I thought it was becuase they wanted her to marry a different race

Wasblind, you're correct and have won the prize of the topic

I just got back to this topic and am kinda tickled at the direction it's gone.

Hubby is the wrong color, meaning my mother had hoped I would marry a white man. She made it very clear when I was eleven and when I was dating (or trying to talk to potential suitors) if she found out they were black she immediately had a problem.

It was ironic because my father's family (very very light black folks - my grandmother's side of the family were very light too) didn't like my father being with my mother because she's very dark (at least that what she told me...could be for some other reason ).

You weren't even close to being wrong Syl. You know how deep this issue is.

Celebrating something to satisfy appearance is pointless anyway. If they have been hard on you and disrespectful of your spouse then a little distance is a good thing.

    Oh Girl,

I have known a few strong women, and I must add you to the pack even though you are online.

The more I learn about you, just make me admire you all the more, because though it all, there you stand,

and I mean you are standin' tall, My admiration for you is high up on the charts. Josie, unfortunately some black people

develope self hate because of the things they have been through not only us darker skinned blacks but lighter ones too

as Syl brought out in her previous post above, I read that as a child Ertha Kitt was mistreated because of her light complextion

so the hurt go both ways light or dark. And Syl reminded me that it go both ways
