    "

The Disciples asked for a sign:

Jesus said that earthquakes famines pestilences and wars were NOT a sign that the End was about to come."

The Disciples asked for a sign about the end of the age.

You have to ask youself, what age were they living in at that time?

70AD marked the end of the Old Covenant age.

Hebrews 8:13 13 "By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear."

If the old covenant "will soon disappear" that means it's still in place as of the writing of Hebrews.

Jesus said that some of the people there with his at the time would still be alive when the end comes.

And some of the people that were with Jesus at that time were still alive in 70AD.

    So there you go.

    Peace

Could the increase we are seeing be as a result of the modern ability for instantaneous communication and media?

Yes, that's plausible. Another factor is the availability and increased sensitivity of instruments for detecting the magnitude, depth and location of earthquakes.

It is more than just plausible, that is exactly what is happening.

"Although it may seem that we are having more earthquakes, earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or greater have remained fairly constant throughout this century and, according to our records, have actually seemed to decrease in recent years.

There are several reasons for the perception that the number of earthquakes, in general, and particularly destructive earthquakes is increasing. ... Better global communication. Just a few decades ago, if several hundred people were killed by an earthquake in Indonesia or eastern China, for example, the media in the rest of the world would not know about it until several days, to weeks, later, long after such an event would be deemed ?newsworthy?. So by the time this information was available, it would probably be relegated to the back pages of the newspaper, if at all. And the public Internet didn't even exist. We are now getting this information almost immediately. "

Thnks JW Facts for quoting the 2002 Awake - still most JWs believe that there is an increase in earthquake occurances and see such as fullfilment of the sign of the end...What bothers me about the quote in the April 2011 WT is how "Jesus never said there would be an increase in earthquakes" roll of their tongue as if they never taught the opposite for decades and how this still stands in publications that are still used to convince HHH people in the field....

still most JWs believe that there is an increase in earthquake occurrences and see such as fulfillment of the sign of the end

Your right t his comes into play with the ever persistent we are living in the end times and Armageddon is just around the corner.

The WTS. likes to exploit peoples ignorances about these topics, intensionally to induce fear into peoples minds which as probable results

in creating more servitude devoted adherents. Its a bit devious, but they also know that it works in creating attention to their literature.

Fear controls...and sells. Check out the latest fear-mongering from the sensationalistic media. Rather similar to our most-hated cult...
