The WT's use of mind control has always reminded me of the scene from Saving Private Ryan where the German soldier has Adam Goldberg's character down on the floor struggling with a knife and as he slowly pushes the blade in he's shushing Goldberg's character and trying to make him be quiet.

Humans build their lives around certain goals, pursuits, ambitions and beliefs in pretty much the same way they would build that tower.
The wise builder considers what the costs will be BEFORE starting to build because running out of resources destroys the purpose of building in the first place.
Among Jehovah's Witnesses there is NO CONSIDERATION for cost or failure PERSONALLY as it applies to a person's own life!
There is no wisdom there at all.
Higher Education is counted as worthless and not as an investment in financial security.
Learning to handle money, creating savings and a hedge for later life is simply out of the question because Armageddon is always so imminent.
So many young people end up in poverty around the Kingdom Halls because they have no foundation for marriage, housing, furniture, insurance, child-care or emergencies. All because the Governing Body regards personal welfare as unworthy of their counsel.
Any health problem can wreck a family when there has been no long range planning. Unemployment, emergencies or even a sudden rise in gas and food prices will drown a JW family in a debt spiral from which they may not recover!
YET THESE TRUSTING PEOPLE SLIP INTO THE ABYSS again and again only because their faith destroys common sense and self-regard!
They are in the custody of unfeeling, calculating morons when it comes to practical day to day living! These morons are their religious leadership known as a GOVERNING BODY. What do they actually "govern" for the welfare of their brothers?
What love is demonstrated by neglect of counsel about COUNTING THE COST of daily life and planning for the future?
The Watchtower organization is supposed to be about faithful and wise Stewardship.

If they were to admit generations (that word again!) may yet come and go without the End-----where would this fragile and stupid theology be??

Reality is socially constructed. Jehovah's Witnesses have constructed a different reality than mainstream society, but who is to say mainstream society has it more 'real' than Jehovah's Witnesses? As if one is true and the other is false. In fact one could argue that this obsession with truth is a pronounced trait of Jehovah's Witnesses we might do well to grow out of.
I have a better question than which constructed reality is 'real'. Which one would you choose to live by? Or put it another way. Imagine for a moment that Witnesses are correct about the nature of reality, who God is, where we are in history, and what the future holds. Even in such a situation, is their way of life the one you would choose to live by? I would argue that even in that scenario many of us would make the conscientious choice that the Witness way of life is not for us. That would seem to me the most authentic rejection of the Witness world.
Finding a practice of life we are comfortable with is a better goal than to discover the true 'reality'.

Yes and the WTS. organization has been trying to emulate the social structure of the ancient Israelites over its
stretch of existence, constructing reality out ancient mysticism has got to be wrought full of problems for
modern social acceptance. For example the murdering of people who simply are not believers of god Yahweh, hows
that for justified moral standard and to faithfully embrace. Isn't that reason you still have one foot in the door Slimboy,
you're scared of being murdered. Murder of course is fear and the WTS has exploited this human emotion to the fullest.
In summation to Terry's topic the most single factor that JWS can't abide to reality is the propagation of fear utilized
by the WTS. to attract attention to their literature and control subjugated believers.

a.The moment of identifying is short-circuited by an interpretive moment of RE-LABELING in Watchtower-speak.
b.All things happening are forced into a narrow storyline and propagandized as End Times happenings leading to Armageddon.
This point particularly stood out to me. When talking about everyday events with a JW the discussion often steers in the direction of the 'last days', 'worldly people' displaying traits found at 2 Tim 3:1-5, them going from bad to worse, and ultimately Armageddon.
My take on "reality" is simple. It is what constantly happens to us whether we want it to or not! The REAL part of reality is that it leaves a mark when it hits us!
There is an old saying about Life being what happens while you make other plans. It is humorous but accurate. Religion is the "other plans".
No matter what Christian Scientists think about the nature of reality they still break bones and die of cancer even with laying on of hands and a million prayers. In other words: REALITY is a bitch for True Believers!
Jehovah's Witnesses view the world as totally corrupt and dying with the final death stroke just waiting to happen.
Consequently, they very wrong-headedly ignore all the very REAL in-between day-to-day realities of food, shelter, sickness, finances.
In short: LIFE ITSELF is totally wasted because they are standing at the bus stop waiting and waiting for a bus that just never seems to arrive.
And all the while....life....REAL life goes on and on and on and on...with them totally ill-prepared.
