My power goes off on occassion, I hate it. I have flashlights everywhere. I intend to get a generator as I also have a well and without electricty, everything goes. Glad you and your wife made it okay, wood stove is necessary where you live. Hurricans and storms are our problem in SE/USA.

Didn't realize this old thread had been resurrected . Thanks for everyones suggestions about how to deal with lack of power. Since this initially happened in late 2010- the P.G. & E. crews have cut a lot more trees down that were leaning on power lines in our mountain area and therefore in 2011 last winter we had fewer power outages. So thats a good thing
