    thank god for science LOL

Excellent points about things changing after the death of TedJ. Proves they are run by men or was it god waiting and waiting for that guy to die so that he could channel the new light to the NEXT overlapping generation of apostles.

    good grief

    Hi Listener

There isn't a year stated against the publications you quoted from but it would seem that the org hasn't been claiming each day is 7.000 years long for many years now.

Sorry about the formatting - the years are the first 2 digits listed after ***

So, last quote posted becomes W87 1/1 p.30...

    Listener:

A lot of their beliefs are centred around the concept that the 7th day is 7000 years long. This includes the idea that Jesus' millenium rule will be in the last 1000 years of the 7th day and 1975 ended the first 6000 years since the creation of Adam (who was created in the 6th day) but coming to the conclusion that we don't know how far into the 7th day we already are.

Yes, this was based on the Sabbath and Jubilee laws of the Old Testament. Every 7 years Jews observed a Sabbath year - the land had to lay fallow, and any fruitage was free for the taking by anyone. After seven of these Sabbath years (49 years total), the Jubilee occurred on the 50th year, where land lay fallow, slaves were freed and property was returned to the original owners or their heirs.

It made sense to me back when it was originally explained, but now that the evidence of the earth's actual age is much much older than indicated in the bible, and the evidence that the story of creation is mythology, it's obvious that there is no antitypical anything in the bible that foretells the future.

clarity said (quoting from an 87 WT):

    W87 1/1p30 questions from readers

"...a study of the fulfillment of bible prophecy and of our location in the stream of time strongly indicate that each of the creative days (Gen1) is 7000 years long. It is understood that Christ's reign of a thousand years will bring to a close God's 7000 year 'rest day', the last 'day' of the creative week.

And here we have the real reason for the JW 7000 year creative day revealed - their 20th century notions on bible prophecy and "our location in the stream of time". The reign of a thousand years will bring to a close God's 7,000 year 'rest day'...Freddy Franz wanted it to happen in 1975; 7000 years fit in nicely and made a nice round number.

Sadly, however, the 1975 prophecy that came out of this chronology failed.

Now, the 7000 year creative day is being abandoned - but in typical WT style, without actually admitting that this, the 6000 years of mans existence, the start of the millenium, and all the rest of the chronology - was WRONG.

I am somewhat late to this thread but it is certainly interesting. However , I do not beleve that it is saying anything new about the creative days.

NB that the WT has always separated the creation of the rocks and terra firma from the creative days and allowed for any age to be put on that,

    It -1 "Creation" p527

"The Scriptures, in stating, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Ge 1:1), leave matters indefinite as to time. This use of the term “beginning” is therefore unassailable, regardless of the age scientists may seek to attach to the earthly globe and to the various planets and other heavenly bodies. The actual time of creation of the material heavens and earth may have been billions of years ago."

The new WT, in my view only re states that, when it says:

9 "Jehovah has, however, revealed essential details about his works. For instance, the Scriptures inform us that God’s spirit was active on the earth aeons ago. (Read Genesis 1:2.) At that time, there was no dry land, no light, and apparently no breathable air at the earth’s surface.

10 The Bible goes on to describe what God did during a series of creative days. These are not 24-hour days but are epochs. On the first creative day, Jehovah caused light to begin to appear at the earth’s surface. That process would be completed when the sun and the moon later became discernible

from the earth. (Gen.1:3,14)On the second day, the atmosphere began to be formed. (Gen. 1:6) Earth then had water, light, and air but still no dry land. Early on the third creative day, Jehovah used his holy spirit to produce dry land, perhaps harnessing powerful geologic forces to push continents up out of the global sea. (Gen.1:9) There would be other astounding developments on the third day and during later creative periods.

    ........

Admittedly, Para 13 is a little ambiguous, but I still believe that the aeons refer to time from the very beginning.

13 After aeons had passed and God had produced innumerable animate and inanimate works, the earth was no longer “formless and waste.” Yet, Jehovah had not finished using his spirit for creative purposes. He was about to produce his highest earthly creation.Toward the end of the sixth creative day, God created man. How did Jehovah do so? By using his holy spirit and the elements of the earth.—Gen. 2:7.

    Quoted from the WT article

The Bible goes on to describe what God did during a series of creative days. These are not 24-hour days but are epochs.

    Definition of epoch

    1. A particular period of history, especially one considered remarkable or noteworthy.
    2. A notable event that marks the beginning of such a period. See synonyms at period.
    3. A unit of geologic time that is a division of a period.
    4. Astronomy. An instant in time that is arbitrarily selected as a point of reference.

It would seem that they are now saying that the each creative day is not the same length of time and therefore they probably still stand by the idea of the seventh day as being 7,000 years. If this is what they believe then why don't they say it in the article?

Lukewarm, a great bunch of quotes, thanks for them!

When you've dedicated your life to a work, isn't a bummer when you can't even approach that organization for an explanation of their doctrines ... well you can but.........you know!

Genesis 1 describes the vision Moses received on the Mount Sion .It lasted literal 7 days of 40 days Moses spent on the mount.

Harold Camping of the http://www.familyradio.com who is proclaiming May,21,2011 as the time of Jesus' return calculated by studying the Bible creation took place in 11013 BC so the world exist now about 13022 years .He takes the 7 days in Genesis as literal days of creation which is a horrible misunderstanding of the Bible.

The Watchtower doesn't realize that those 7 days in Genesis 1 are 7 days from the time Moses lived and stayed on the mountain !

But they got some 49 000 years for world's existence.

If we consider the fact that God can create a 100-year old body in seconds then we can get into a vary precarious situation.

We can see the universe ,say, 100 billion years old as we study and examine it scientifically but it might have been created in much shorter time .

God could create this universe in one year but it looks like it is 15 billion years old .

But we can explore the possibility what if the creation took so long as the science says knowing now that those 7 days in Genesis are the time God was showing Moses ( for 7 literal days ) how He was creating the world .

The best solution based on the Bible seems to be this :

    6 days x 7000 years x 360 days in a prophetic year x 360 days in a prophetic year = over 15 billion years.

1/6 of that is 2.5 billion years for the age of the earth .

Now ,check these data with what the scientists say about the age of the universe and the earth.
