Bro dan says: " Besides...they acknowledge that they were mistaken a few years after this was shown to NOT be true. So give them a break!!! "

If this is the case, then there is no such thing as a false prophet

but according to Duet 18: 21-22 they don't get a break.

The measurements in the Great Pyramind of Giza amount to 1914, so it MUST be so!!!!!!!

    LOL!!!!!!

Did they measure the pyramid in feet and inches in calculating the dates?

Amazing that the Egyptians were clever enough to construct the pyramid using English measurements that wouldn't be invented until several thousand years later!

Or was it Satan that came up with that idea? (Rutherford)

    Very confusing.

No wonder we all need the FDS to tell us what to think!

    (Don't worry; I'm being facetious)

Someone refresh my memory. When the Big A didn't come in '75, didn't they trying 'reasoning' (and I use that term loosely) that it was because Jehovah hadn't created Eve yet, or some crap like that?

Dingbat Debator said: look at the book

    OK, I did.

what does it put on the year 1975?

That it would be the end of 6,000 years since man was created and it would be the start of the 1,000 year reign of God's Kingdom by Jesus whereby all surviving drones for the Borg would live happily for the next thousand years as they either buried, burned or watched the birds eat billions of rotting corpses, while they argued over which house they got to live in.

    Certainly not Armageddon.

Kinda hard to get to God's Kingdom without passing Armageddon you brainless twit. Care to explain how that happens?

I think the 1914 generation is far more damaging to the WTS than 1975. While they never said specifically that armageddon would come in 1975, they did say that Jehovah has promised that the Generation alive in 1914 would not pas away before armageddon.

    Mary,

They said that Jehovah's sabbath rest didn't begin until Jehovah finished creating, which meant that the sabbath rest should be measured from the creation of Eve, the last direct creation.

This was important because the millenial reign was supposed to parallel Jehovah's sabbath rest (end of "6th day" = end of 6,000 years since Jehovah stopped creating).

In the 5/1/1968 WT (p. 271), Freddy said that Adam and Eve were created, at most, a few months apart, both in 426 BCE.

But in the May 1, 1975 Watchtower (p. 285), Freddy got cold feet and said that we don't know the length of time between the creation of Adam and the creation of Eve, so we can't say for sure just when the 6,000 years will end.

As far as I know, they never retracted this explanation.

    Let's see: 1975-2010.

I guess Adam waited at least 35 years for Eve to be created.

Must have been LOTS of animals to name.

I never understood this whole sabbath rest argument anyway.

Doesn't the Watchtower teach that Jehovah only directly created Michael and that Michael did all of the creating after that?

(I don't agree with this, but it's WT doctrine.)

So, according to the WTS, didn't JEHOVAH rest from HIS creating the moment he created Michael?

" they did say that Jehovah has promised that the Generation alive in 1914 would not pas away before armageddon."

    That's right Drewcoul,

they said that " this system will end before the generation of 1914 would pass off the scene."

By using the word will, this means it is sure to happen. absolutley, positively

I don't care what they changed this summer, I'm not lettin' those buggers off the hook

since Bethel lurkers are trolling for copyrighted material, read this you false prophets

That seven-year period will evidently finish in the autumn of the year 1975."

This is one of the many statements where they first make a strong statement, and then put a qualifyer (evidently) in there to give them an escape clause. The Society is full of "evidentlys" and "probablys" and "logicallys" which are all used by the "uninspired true prophet."
