take your measly social security check and run.

My city/property taxes in NJ alone went up to $8,500 a year (in 20 years it's gonna be $15,000?).............. how can I retire here?

I am faced with a similar situation.

I can work from anywhere in the world, all I need is internet and voice.

A sharp tax increase would serve as an incentive for me to do so elsewhere.

Lots of people are doing it, Central America is full of American retirees. Costa Rica alone has 50 to 100 thousand US expatriates, many of them residing illegally.

I have already a couple of family members there.

I don't think Obama gets it, I don't think our mayors get it either.

you got buzzy, sammie, and friends wanting our police and city forces making $150k or more, so we can't afford our taxes

By the way, a lot of them move down to Florida with six figure pensions. I have a friend who was a Chicago cop that lives like a king. I could cite many examples from NY, NJ, etc.

It is inane that our tax dollars are paying for salaries and benefits that we do not attain, on average. "Civil servant" has become oxymoronic. We serve them.

We're looking/planning to eventually relocate out of the US. It's not making much sense to slave here in America and expect to retire comfortably.

What happened to personal responsibility? What type of personal retirement planning have you all performed? Why are you relying on Socialistic support from the government?

I am a liberal, and I don't expect the US government will take care of me.

As long as you don't need high-tech health care, and don't mind adapting to a less "plugged in" culture, it sounds very attractive.

Good to keep a way to get back plan in place though.

my mom a couple of years ago needed alot of dental work done, here in the states it was unaffordable, even with medi-cxxx.

she took a nice vacation to central america, investigated a good referenced place and got it done for almost nil. years later and the work still looks good
