Was that a post or a glimpse of Godzilla from way up close??

Hey Perry--why do Fundamentalists use Darwinism as a term instead of Evolution?

Darwin lived in the 19th Century. His theories have been updated by now.

Debating "Darwin" is like challenging somebody to a road race with your current model vehicle and insisting that your opponent drive a Model A.

When you cite a certain number of Scientists (who presumably are Christian--are they, by the way?) aren't you commiting the Fallacy of Appeal to Authority?

    (Did you get my PM?)

I don't get it. Aren't there also a ton of scientists who support evolution? And does every scientist listed disagree completely with evolution, or just certain aspects of what Darwin believed over 100 years ago?

What does this do to either prove the existence of God, or disprove evolution?

    Perry, what is Darwinism?

    Terry,

    Check your PM.

    Keyser,

    The statement says:

We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life.

Does "modern" evolution have a different mechanism to account for life besides random mutation and natural selection? I'm not aware of one. This is usually the main argument from what I've seen.

Actually your question is a little off evolution accounts for species not life itself that's a different field but yes there is more to evolution then random mutation and natural selection.

I am sceptical that this does anything to further our knowledge.

Scepticism is a good quality for a scientist to have though, if we do not keep testing our theories we will not progress in knowledge.

This statement though, is not a damnation of the present theory of evolution, it simply calls for further research in to how life became so complex.

Careful examination of the evidence for any theory should be encouraged.

As an Atheist who looks at evidence for what I believe, I just ask that Theists do the same.

How many of the above signatories would also sign something that said "We are sceptical of the (insert what name you want) theories for the existence of god, all the evidence should be carefully examined"

The study of the origin of life is abiogenisis. As far as evolution goes, yes, it does. It's been observed. Check out, oh, I dunno, virii inserting themselves into your DNA, jumping genes....read a book? Survival of the Sickest is a good start.

The term "Darwinism" carries a negative connotation to most creationists in America today, but not so everywhere. So Perry wants committment to Darwinism then he can say there are things wrong with Darwin's theories and take the "Either-Or" approach as if there are only the two choices of Darwin's theory or Perry's Creation beliefs. We all know there are several theories of how man got here.

Darwinism is not a simple theory that is either true or false but is rather a highly complex research program that is being continuously modified and improved. This was true before the [modern evolutionary synthesis]*, and it continues to be true after the synthesis. Most critics who have attempted to refute the evolutionary synthesis have failed to recognize that there is a diversity of views and thus have succeeded in refuting only the reductionist fringe of the Darwinism camp.

*Modern evolutionary synthesis: the process of evolution which is based on the work of Charles Darwin but also includes more recent discoveries and findings from modern scientific research and genetics.
