or make it voluntary - location from existing profiles would give inordinate weight to Afghanistan etc...

display a map of roughly where people are (based on the location in their profile, not actual location)

Sadly for those of us joined not long ago (like me, almost a year ago), there was no way to change our location in the profile.

I also would like some locations list, for other reason: most of the people on this forum live in US or UK, and I wouldn't mind finding someone living closer than a thousand mile from me.

It would need to be a voluntary thing on an as-needed basis, I would think.

For instance, Joe ExDub is going to a conference in Rochester, NY. Joe posts to the board, "Hey, I'm going to be in Rochester from this date to that date. Anyone want to meet up for a beer and discussion? PM me."

No offense to anyone but I wouldn't trust having my location put on a database no matter WHO was in charge of organizing it.

The info on the maps was all voluntary. I wouldn't even put someone on the map if a erson said put me and my friend "whoever" on the map with me. People had to ask directly either on the thread or by PM. I never put cities on the map even though the old profiles listed the cities of some people so the closest anyone could be traced to was state province or in the case of small countries - the country. People could also say they lived in Swaziland. That is where they got put on the map even though most of us knew they weren't there.

If you want to make a spread sheet I won't be helping. Take a poll and ask if people want to be listed on it. Once it is done be prepared for people who move or change their minds about being on the list or people who leave the board and want to be taken off the list. Constant editing is required. Frankly that is why I gave up on it. That and I had to keep enlarging Texas to get more members on lol

    Lady Lee,

    Thanks for the response.

    You have an incredible story.

My only (wishful) plans for a trip to Canada, is a casino that borders the US (New York). I believe thats a ways from Ontario.

    Keep up the good work.

Lady Lee (or more precisely whoever endeavours to do this): nowadays it can be done with Google Maps, it would give a nice framework for such a project. Then you wouldn't have to worry with enlarging and such . Your main problem would be randomly dropping the members in their area, because Google Maps is just way too precise.

just randomly add or subtract a small fraction from both of the geo coordinates - would be very simple to do
