That was a very interesting experience! I love how we're just so nonchalant about earthquakes.

I lived through the 1971 earthquake in CA /6.6 (San Fernando Valley) I will never forget it... I was newly married, and had just moved to Toluca Lake, CA... just a few weeks earlier. I was 18 and a dub. I thought armageddon was starting... It was first thing in the morning...just getting up...

    Shudder...

I hope everyone is safe. I will not be surprised that the WTS will take advantage of it to say the end is near. Flipper, take notice of that during your next phone chat with your daughter. Please,be ready.

Hi White Dove. I felt it too this afternoon about 3:40. I'm out in the west valley near Sun City and Surprise (AZ)

I was sitting reading and felt the ground rocking. My daughter didn't notice it but she was moving around cleaning out her closet.

By the way, now they're saying it was a 7.2

I'm sure my parents will bring it up in the course of our next discussion (considering we just had the one in Chile and Haiti... add to that San Diago this morning, Nevada and Baja California).

You see, my parents don't understand the concept of the "world". It's not a big deal if something bad happens in say.. North Africa. But if something happens in America - holy crap, this is it.

If they want to make an issue of it, I'll just point out the facts again:

So... this one makes the 4th magnitude 7-7.9 quake this year, putting us on track at the current rate for a total of around 12 by the end of the year, which is right around average.

If they still want to pursue it, I'll just mention that due to Haiti, the US media may be reporting these earthquakes a bit more... but just like they did after the Tsunami in 2004 they'll lose interest again.

From what I read, none of the quakes in San Diego, Baja California, or Nevada resulted in serious damage or any deaths.

Here ya go (I just googled Earthquake statistics)

    http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqarchives/year/eqstats.php

They used to have some nice line graphs going all the way back to like 1960, but I can't find those anymore. Now all I can find on their site is bar graphs back to 1980.
