I was never going to get old. I was going to live forever and stay in my early 30's. For me the realisation that I will get old and grey (well the tiny bit of hair I have left) is a fairly new concept, and I haven't yet fully adjusted to the idea of it.
does the idea of aging get easier with time?

I came to grips with aging by realizing it is the only way to see your children grow and becomd adults so that we may share in their passions and acomplishments. Grandchildren also give us a chance to have a hand in helping to raise them with all our accumulated wisdom :) we didn't have the first time around. The tough part for me is to look in the miror every day and more and more see my father staring back at me.

I'm 43 and I wouldn't go back to 23 for anything.
I'm much more comfortable in my skin now, than I ever was when I was younger.
Hell, I topless sunbathed in public for the first time in my life 2 weeks ago.....and I didn't give a crap what anyone thought!!

I realized my age last year when an elderly relative was in the hospital. She was in her late 80s and always in and out of the hospital. This one time things didn't look so good so most of the family made a concentrated effort to get to the hospital...just in case.
I saw a lot of cousins that I hadn't seen in a long time and we got to talking and as the day wore on, I noticed that our conversations revolved around our ailments. Bad knees, bad back, bad heart, he's on lipitor, she's on plavix, colonoscopies, on and on...
It kinda hit me...these were the same cousins that I ran around with playing all kinds of games and always doing something active. We used to make fun of our parents who wouldn't join us because of some ailment.
Now, here we were sitting around like a bunch of old farts comparing surgeries and diseases.
I suddenly felt old and that was when I realized that I was actually on the downhill side of life. All the good years were gone.
It was sobering...

I agree, aging is very sobering.
It came in some increments for me but then bam it was here.
I am freaking old, there is no turning back so many things.
I think to do it gracefully is not to fight it, embrace it as much as you can.
Take the collective of all you learned over the past years to good use.
Be thankful you still have a mind because of the things your body can't do anymore.
Find people that are not all caught up in the youth hype, that makes it easier too.
and for gods sake, don't wear hot pants!
