    Howdy Simon,

I'm so sorry for the angry & frustration you're running into. Such excellent responses with knowledge at the tip of the fingers!

I've received a couple of letters from Hawkaw before......get your yellow highlighter ready, with refills. Much Information!

Seven006 has some good advice about how to deal with JW siblings who want to let a parent die:

you go right to the doctors and tell them you don't want your cult-ridden siblings to let your Dad die, and that you'll sign a paper absolving them of responsibility for giving him blood against your siblings wishes. -AlanF

    Fine suggestion.

Hope it goes well for your family.

All the best Simon&family. My dad IS a bloodnazi (HLC), so if you come up against anything problematic from them I might be able to get an inside angle on where they are coming from, if it's not covered by the stuff others have provided.

My heart goes out to you Simon and Angharad. I am so touched by the expressions of love I have read here and the enthusiasm to help you with this blood issue.

I just want to say a great big "thank you" to let you know how much I appreciate being here as it is here that I have learned so much about the lies and deceit in the WTS blood teaching and have taken some definite steps with my family in the event I am ever in a life-threatening situation.

I add my sincere best wishes for a speedy recovery for your father. I am so glad he has you to stand up for him and fight for his life.

To be honest, I think the HLC tend to push people to take blood from what I've heard - it's the dumb dumbs do-gooders from the local congs that aren't usually uptodate on what is currently 'allowed' and are still living on past doctrines.

    Simon; exactly (what you say about the HLC's), thus the offer; sometimes you just have to understand the spin of a sentence like;

"Of course, if in fear you were to accept a blood transfusion, and were later not repentant of that, you would effectively disassociate yourself"

    actually means

"Take the fucking blood and say sorry later, I'm missing Gilligan's Island on TV sat here in this stinking hospital, and my wife is always pissed off when I get a call-out, so I'm not getting any tonight, and I'm not going to have your life on my conscience, especially when I actually know enough about the blood doctrine to know it's a very unfunny joke and would take blood if I had a nose bleed".

Hope all goes well, my thoughts are with you...

You are absolutely correct Simon with your thinking.

An HLC member has one duty - make sure the JW follows the present policy. In this case the policy means in certain situation you must die.

As for your other thought the majority of JWs I know in Kingston don't have clue one about the policy changes.

I find it wild that a so-called apostate site has an easy to read chart that shows what is and is not approved and what is in the "grey" areas compared to the Hospital Information Service.

Oh one final thing - you are more than welcome to use anything in that letter I sent you with your dad or whoever. I just don't want the guy's name in the letter made public - so edit what you need to and use it.

    Take care,

    hawk

p.s. - I saw Lee Elder was on this site this morning. As a person who heads up the AJWRB site and has been personally affected by this stupid policy, Lee may wish to comment on this thread or at least get in touch with you Simon.

    Simon,

Sorry I haven't gotten to this post until now. I was in a similar situation a few years back with my Mom. She had complications after surgery and her low Tcells count was dangerously close to killing her. She had slipped into a coma and was given a 10% chance of living. My step dad and other brothers and sisters were busy having a watchtower study in the waiting room so my sister and I went directly to her doctor and told him to give her the blood derivative that would built her cell count. We told him that we would take any responsibility for his actions and signed a a legal paper dissolving him of any liability.

I also went up to the elder who was the hospital liaison and told him that if he interfered in the slightest I would file charges of criminal assisted suicide, and criminal endangerment. I also told him if she died I'd kick the shit out of him. He backed off very quickly and left the hospitol.

Since my sister and I were as much family to my Mom as the rest of my brothers and sisters the doctor listened to us. My sister and I convinced the doctor that my step dad was too upset and confused to make rational decisions. He gave her the ambabem (spelling ?) and she pulled out of it with in two days.

I don't know what the laws are like in this manner in your country but here in the US the signature of a family member willing to back a doctor up goes a long way. Also the JW hospital liaison are big whims and are easy to kick the shit out of.

I hope your dad comes out of this. Do what ever you can and worry about the stupid ass religion later.

    Take care,

    Dave

Hey, I came across this while looking through old posts and thought it was worth posting an update ...

My dad did OK and pulled through, he got a pacemaker last year and has lost a lot of weight and is doing great.

Things sometimes do work out in the end ... if anyone else is going through anything similar right now, my thoughts are with you and maybe this will give you a little hope and encouragement that the future isn't always as bleak as we imigine at the time.
