If the double decker hop on hop off (hoho) busses are running, it's a great way to see the city. Tickets are good for 24 hours and it's far cheaper than a cab! If the Thames river cruises are running, they're fun, too. You board down by the London Eye area.

use your Oyster Card on the river for a trip from the London Eye to Greenwich Pier - best 3 quid (pounds) and 30 mins you'll spend...

spend some time at the Greenwich Observatory and then on the return journey jump off at St Katharines Pier - walk under Tower Bridge to the Tower of London - then walk across Tower Bridge. Hang a right and stroll along the Embankment towards London Bridge. Locate Borough Market and spend a while in there - you will get a great idea of the best food and drink available in London

Make sure you reserve enough funds to do at least one pub crawl in Soho/Covent Garden - start at The Crown

check out beerintheevening.com and fancyapint.com - avoid anything that looks like a trendy bar and stick with the high rated older pubs - don't eat in any of the pubs, despite their genuine offers of London's Best Fish 'n Chips etc....save your munchies for China Town

the rest depends on what kind of stuff you like to do..........

From The Eye you can walk across to the Houses of Parliament then to Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square is nearby too. It so easy to use public transport too.

wow great tips peeps! Borough Market has been added to the list of musts, thanks Besty!

I just found out that the tube isn't running on the 25th so I guess I'll be doing the Heathrow Express to Paddington and then taking a cab to Lambeth....unless there are any other suggestions (she asked hopefully...)?

    cheers!
