I think your example sums it all up - the tension among the JW's about this and the fact, its always on their minds. Almost like they are paranoid what others will think, outside the organaization, and within.

I must say

I had a very progressive study with a lady who came regularly to the K.H I was never asked to give the studt to a sister .

I also bought a girl to the meeting from work. I remember a stupid sister made a silly comment. (I was a new brother my wife only attended occasionally) The elders never mentiond how inapropriate this was-

Looking back on this I never understood this. All I can think was I had 3 progressive studies comming to the K.H and they were the only studies comming to the hall.

Now Iam out Iam pleased none are witnesses and Iam friends with them all.

Of course, the WTS teaches that unchaperoned people don't have sex during the day. The WTS has that policy in the elder's manual that if two people of the opposite sex are unchaperoned overnight that they could be df'd for fornication/adultery even if no sex happened.

An elder's wife in one of the congregations I was in had another brother, a carpenter, come in and do some renovations in the house. No chaperone...they did run off together...2 df'ings. I think there was something going on already and this was a cover.

I recall that eventually elders were told to not be alone with a sister when giving counsel or comfort. It was for the elders protection as it was becoming more common for allegations of sexual misconduct to be filed against elders. I once heard an unauthorized tape that was being passed around the KH. It was a sad story about an elder who had helped a mother and her 14 yr old daughter, only to be later accused of molestation of te 14 yr. old. It ruined his life as an elder ( he had to step down) and it ruined him personally. I believe he may have died early , but I could be wrong on that . The audience was clearly feeling for the elder- a man , a servant of God who had been tricked and taken advantage of by 2 scheming women. I think they may have used the birthday of where John the Baptist was beheaded as an example. (scheming jezebels).
