Why did you leave the society??

I did not have many friends. Everyone was too into themselves and their wants to encourage, love, or uplift.
I believe love is more important than traditions. The whole go to meetings, remodel the Kindgom Hall (instead of sending it to needer areas), go to service thing didn't fly with me. It was more important that my dad became an elder (to my grandparents) then it was that I grew up.
Being a JW gives up alot of time, expecially if you become an elder. When I visit my grandfather (prominent elder) he is always in his office "getting ready for meeting", he has no time.
The constant belief that "we are do not judge" and then turn around and believe that all who do not enter the JW religion will forever be cut off. ("Bad association spoils useful habits"-my non-witness friend and I had a very long and enlightening discussion on this topic) --Double standards and hypocrysy
At the time I believed in paradise, I could not fathom the idea of being stuck with these people (and no one else) for the rest of my existance.
You were treated crappy if you did not want to go to Bethal, become an elder, marry an elder, become baptised, or become a pioneer. Better looking, richer people are treated better.
I felt horrible when I couldn't get my first study to accept what I was saying, and all my (supposed) friends and relatives had wonderful experiences.
That's just some of the reasons.

    Sadie:

Please review the following web sites before you make any decisions to be baptized into the JW's:

    Click on: http://members.aol.com/beyondjw/indoct.htm
    Click on: http://members.aol.com/beyondjw/dwjw.htm

I left because of their two-faced lies, conditional love, pressure, guilt, hypocrisy, false prophecies, flipping doctrines back and forth, twisted NWT Bible translation (in order to support their doctrine), cult mind-controlling methods....should I go on? The WTS Gov Body is not what they appear!

You are, of course, free to choose as you like. Our advice (and it is just that...advice) is that you think twice before getting baptized. In fact, I'm sure, those on this board would agree when I say run away from them as fast as you possibly can. If you think this sounds like panic, you're right and for good reason.

P.S. An absolute must for reading: "Crisis of Conscience" and "In Search of Christian Freedom" by Raymond Franz
    Edited for P.S.

"Wicked men obey from fear; good men, from love".... Aristotle. You can love and obey Christ without intervention from an organization.

Thanks for checking out my history, Sadie. I hope that the other stories here combined with it will help you to see what being a baptized JW is really like.

As far as what you can't do, an easier question is what can you do? Nothing!

A long time ago at H2O Shaun asked us all to contribute our "can't do's" to a list that was being compiled. Here is the link to the results:

It's an eye opener. The rest of Shaun's site is really excellent too and definitely worth your time to check out.

    Good luck!

p.s. to JonnieMae, thanks for your kind thoughts. You'd be surprised how "brave" you can be when you want to survive! (God knows I didn't feel brave when I was going through it all. I just "felt the fear and did it anyway" as my hero Phil McGraw likes to say :) Thanks again.

Why did you leave the society??

Once the age of scrutiny was reached, I finally realized that the relative return ratio between the WTBTS Corporate pursuit of materialism and demonstrative altruistic data while championing materialisms imminent destruction, was favoring materialism by a factor of zero (either actual altruism and destruction), to infinity (materialism).

Leaving only two options open to Jehovah's Witnesses, embrace the corporate lifestyle of the WTBTS or a third-rate fantasy.

    So I walked.

    Hi Sadie,
I wrote my cousin Sharon's story a couple of years ago. It is also my story. Randy Watters has many of them on his site. Here is Sharon's and mine.

Why did I leave? Hmmmm ....

I guess the best answer would be that I felt spiritually stagnant.
