I know it's nothing more than a scam. They will promise to get the "sisters" interested in me if I go back "long enough to establish a pattern". At which point, they will drive them all away from me all the while, while setting me up to be hosted by men that will prevent me from ever seeing the outside world again. Either way, it is a trap.

What reasons do you think he's gone back for? Is it purely to get a girlfriend? Or to please his family? Because if he's told you he's had doubts, then he isn't going back for the right reasons. I'd put my money on him wanting to find a girl. And all the inviting out, well, that will wear off. Doesn't he realise that? Silly boy. There will be some genuine people who are happy to see him, but the others, well, they think they're happy he's back - but it's all just part of ingrained behaviour. It's learnt and kind of like autopilot. Just wait and see what happens when the invitations fizzle out. I think you will have your friend back. But do you really want a person in your life who is so fickle?

your friend is on an emotional rollercoaster.no wonder there is a higher rate of mental illness in this religion even though experts say that people who are religious tend to be more happy and sane.i never participated in the love bombing especially after a reinstatement announcement.

I recently had a similar situation. An old friend hadn't been to meetings in over a year. We would meet up for a beer now and then, and he would unload on how horrible the elders were and how he didn't even believe the bible. Well, he was feeling down and decided to go to the assembly. He was love bombed, and then decided that I was bad association. Not only that, but he was telling other dubs how evil I was (for agreeing with him apparently). So, that knocked another two old friend off the list.

yeah love bombing is openly encouraged during special talks, and announcements before special meetings, including memorial and assemblies

I knew a kid that was questioning everything. He quit going to meetings, was attending college, had a 'wordly' girlfriend that he lived with, and was unsure of the exsistance of god. After a few conversations with him about different topics he started to open up his mind a little. He even told me that he felt guilty for looking down on others who celebrated holidays, realizing the superficial nature of the belief.

His mom convinced him to go to a convention where he became convinced that "the end was really close!" He began attending meetings again, dropped the girlfriend, etc.

Funny thing is, these phases don't last too long. I'm sure he is still flip flopping between being "in" and "out", some people do that their entire lives...

i agree drew sagan-the reason is that gods holy spirit isnt involved.just peoples encouragement and our own imagination.

It's so sad to hear of people going back to the JWs "like a dog returning to its vomit." Their problem is that the JWs are like a drug to them, and they're mentally addicted. Every time they go back, they get love-bombed, and make the mistake of thinking that the witnesses are going to treat them like that all the time. It doesn't matter that it didn't happen that way the last time, and the time before that, etc. this time will be different in their minds. And then once the love-bombing is over they again realize that their problems didn't go away, and again they drift and fade away from the organization. Albert Einstein said that madness is doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result each time. There's a lot of madness in the world.

I think it also goes to show that many if not most Witnesses aren't in the religion because of how "true" it is. They're in it for emotional reasons. They don't know how to live any other way so they stick with the organization regardless.

    Proverbs 26:11 (New International Version)

11 As a dog returns to its vomit,
so a fool repeats his folly.

2 Peter 2 (New International Version)

    False Teachers and Their Destruction

1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment; 5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men 8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— 9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment. 10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority.

Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings; 11 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord. 12 But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.

13 They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you. 14 With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood! 15 They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness. 16 But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey—a beast without speech—who spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

17 These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. 18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. 19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. 20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. 22 Of them the proverbs are true: "A dog returns to its vomit," and, "A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud."

    Blessings,

    Stephen
