    You've got to be taught

    To bow and scrape

    You've got to be taught

    to accept the rape

It's got to be beaten out

    that desire to escape

You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught to be afraid

    Of things presented in masquerade,

    to believe the liar's serenade

And to rely on the monster for all your aid,

You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught to take the bait.

Before you are six or seven or eight,

To hate all the people the tyrants berate,

You've got to be carefully taught!

Like I said JO - start treating your own people right and the rest will follow. Who asked you to drop bombs in Iraq? Why? 9 Trillion bucks in the war for what? Did you benefit from that venture into 'policing' the world. Obama is trying to achieve a coexistence globally without killing a few million people in a country to do it. Kudo's to him. I'm not against defense at all, just occupation in the name of democracy and killing in the name of freedom. There is no reason why those at the top tier shouldn't pay more in taxes nor is there any reason why they should be allowed to hide their money offshore to avoid those taxes. The day hedge funds are subject to increased taxation, regulation is put back in place throughout the finance industry and credit default swaps are illegal will be a great day - it will put a halt to the rampant greed and corruption that is still pushing some people to scam not only the taxpayer but the government.

By the way - read a little and understand even more. Nobody but you said Americans are horrible...that's your inferiority complex showing..like I said, I believe it's fear and you represent all that fear I guess. I quite like Americans in general and I think the USA is a great country - but I fully understand that it is just one of a number of great countries full of great people. Radical righties fail to grasp that concept - that the rest of the world does exist and it's full of bright, compassionate and hard working people. No need to stand alone when the world can stand with you.

You do realize that your foreign aid is something like 2% and in actuality far less than some other 'socialized' countries. You do realize that there are people who are not defined by a country, but by their good works, who together bring aid and assistance to needy people around the world. That means they work collectively, regardless of country of origin, to help others around the world. I commend all those doctors, nurses and others that offered free healthcare to those in this country who need it - they are the true heroes in America. They are the committed and the compassionate. We gather people from all corners of the world, of like mind, to help others.

What you don't seem to understand is that people around the world are the same as you - you don't like to hear about their experiences because you demand we adhere to the notion that the USA is the 'greatest country on god's green earth'... and yet, in order to make that statement, you must denigrate all other countries to do so. That shows a lack of maturity and worldliness and perhaps a lack of education and knowledge. The USA is one of many countries that is great - but let's not keep running everyone else down in order to make the point they are 'better'. Why must the USA always be the 'greatest' when to be one of the greatest is an absolute compliment and shows respect for others and all their sacrifices and contributions to the world. I'm simply trying to point out that living in other countries, usually gives us a more real perspective on how things operate and so we can more easily pull what's good out and throw away what's bad.

Cut and paste - feel free. By the way, you accuse people of a different mindset of labelling you a racist or hater - what do you think happens to those who disagree with a radical right wing agenda - why of course we get called communists and socialists. The shit flies both ways so dry up those tears. I'm all for getting manufacturing back into the country and while we're at it, make hands on jobs something to be proud of again in this country instead of having people believe that there is no value in being a plumber or a mechanic or a hairdresser. The USA can do it all - they have the resources to do so - as Obama believes 'YES, WE CAN'...focus on the positive and it will happen. Do not be afraid - come to the light side lol.

If one thing is apparent, it's that there is not and will not be honest and fair debate on this or any other issue Obama tries to make. The reasons remain obvious - and sadly, if only there could have been, I think a solid compromise could have been reached that would have been of benefit to all Americans. If forced, this reform will make it harder to swallow and just serve to create more of a divide...but in the end, I believe it will start to stabilize, equalize and motivate the USA to seek reform in other issues of concern. sammieswife.

47 years running, and these people do not give up. The lie is the same. It never changes.

Ronnie's rebuttal is irrefutable and could have been written yesterday.

This is false. Not saying you are lying or anything. Just thought you should know. The commonly used figure for Medicare overhead is not a valid comparison to what private insurances report.

If it's wrong I will stop saying it. Nothing bugs me more than people continuing to use arguments that have been debunked.

What is the best indication that it's wrong? Care to post a link?

    My response to Dave

don't know you. I only know that you are opposed to "free" health care. What else can I assume? Since there is no option for free basic care currently available from private souces that can be made available to everyone in the country, it is up to the national government to provide something, anything.

There is no such thing as "free health care." Someone is paying for it. We pay now. We will pay more if the gov. is in charge. At the present time, under the law, if you go to an emergency room, they cannot refuse treatment because you have no insurance.

So you just assume that I am a selfish person because I don't agree with you? What else can you assume? Maybe that I have good reasons to have a different opinion than you.

Besides, I am an American. I am single and have no children. I have worked hard for a living. I am currently unemployed. My previous job had no benefits. The local economy is in bad shape. I'm using my savings and moving back in with JW family.

After my divorce, as a single mother, I earned very little. We had the basics and little more. I found a way to make sure my kids had coverage. I understand that it's tough. The local economy where my daughter lives is awful. She struggles. Her pay has been cut to be able to keep her job. Her daughter was in a horrific accident 2 days into my grandson's walk. She has maintained insurance...fortunately for my granddaughter whose hospital stay and surgeries were enormous. Yet, look at what my daughter has been able to do. David will arrive in DC tomorrow morning. You want to talk about a real community organizer? Just take a look at what a 14 year old can do. www.helpingstepbystep.com In addition, she has taken people into her home to help them, as I did when she was growing up. I think you sell the American people short when you think that the government has to take care of us. I think we are all capable of more than we think we are. Most of the homeless shelters are not gov. run. They are run by churches or private groups of people who see a need and try to help.

I'm really a very conservative person. I don't want to ask for assistance. I don't trust the government either. I have no chronic illness that I am aware of, but what if I did?

I agree that something needs to be done about the system. I agree that those in need should be provided for. I do not think that the government needs to take over the system to make that happen.

The best shelters (and they are not gov. run) provide not just a place to stay, , but transitional housing and training and medical treatment to survive in the real world. They are given a place to live and training to get a job. They stay until they earn enough to get started on thier own. (a limited time) Over time they become self sufficient.

I stand by what I said about property values and the attitudes of (some?, many?, a majority?) Americans. Just Google "tent cities" for current news stories about local governments evicting homeless people for violating codes. Even churches that offer a place for homeless to set up tents are being harassed. Why should it matter if poor people set up shelters on public or donated land except that those with property are selfishly afraid of losing wealth?

You are right...My grandson has run into this on his journey. In Myrtle beach, homeless people are harrassed. He wrote about it on his blog. The politicians don't like homeless people to be visible....hurts thier image. This is true in many areas. For there to be a large population of homeless in an area makes the place look bad... which is why politician in general don't want it to be publicized. Do you think that it hurts the gov. image for there to be 1.5 million homeless children in our own country? There have been many politicians contacted about David's journey, how many do you think have responded? The president has been contacted about this by a number of influential people (not just the petition). Do you think he responded? Trusting the politicians to make a real change is very naive. This is just another reason why nanny government is not the answer.

I am very much concerned about the plight of homeless and poor people, just as you are, because I am poor, though not as poor as some. I am fortunate enough to have family support.

Family support is very important...and is a much better answer than what the government offers. So when that is available, that's great. But if there is no family support, then there should be an safety net... which doesn't mean a wholsale government takeover. Have you read the bill/s? I'm in the process of trudging through it now.... I think everyone should, so we know what's in store for us..

trust me, i want health care for all, but at what cost? Obamination will ake us pay dearly! more and more jobs (employers) will leave us.

less jobs, less taxes, and we will be in the next great depression. all for what? healthcare! we have healthcare, mind you it's not perfect but it's here!

obama should dabble in changing laws (loopholes insurance companies have to drop people) i have heard of horror stories, where a person was dropped

for not disclosing she had acne in her past! now that's travesty.

fix the bad, don't fix the good!

"I've got mine and everyone else can get F-ed. Greed is the problem."

Its funny Jeeprube because I was out having breakfast this morning with my wife thinking about this topic and those exact words went through my mind. I think that is exactly what a lot of people are saying but unless they are rich they are only screwing themselves. If something isn't done now you watch what happens to cost of heath care in the US. I heard on the radio the other day that Blue Cross is already planning a large price increase on their fees and everyone else will do the same.
