It's Just Like "Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed"

My wife doesn't know why I like this show. She's seen it, despite it being about magic. She has that uneasy JW feeling about it and walks away, but she knows that it reveals trickery and involves no magic, so she doesn't comment on it. She knows I could tear her comments to shreds.

But why do I like "Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed" so much?

I think it's because the show reveals that complicated tricks really are not so complicated. It's similar to the WTS tricks with the Bible and twisting of logic. It seems complicated until you know the trick. JWN and other sites reveal the trick, and I am drawn to them. So the television show is very similar to WTS using distractions and illusions.

    Here's a couple of examples:

Interesting analogy, OTWO. I think it's because we all want to "believe" in the magic, in the same way witnesses want to believe the "truth." Deep down, we know it's all "smoke and mirrors" but suspend our disbelief in order to be entertained. Same thing with the "truth," but instead of entertainment, its hope of paradise.

My jw has seen the commercials for the show and had some dumb smart aleck comments about it. The problem is that it contains the word 'magic' which all jw's like to avoid. I have book that contains the word 'magic' in the title but don't bring it out because I know it would give him the willies, good grief, it is a book on language but still........

"I think it's because we all want to "believe" in the magic.."

You sound like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting or a Mark Twain novel.

"Deep down, we know it's all "smoke and mirrors" but suspend our disbelief in order to be entertained."

NEVER. Deep down, I knew it was all smoke and mirrors with magic but wanted to see the slight of hand or figure the trick out.
With WTS doctrine, I eventually got to looking for the mirror, but suspended disbelief at first, so I get what you say.

Same here. Maybe that's why we're both out and our wives are still in?

Years ago I was watching a David Copperfield show on tv and speaking to my mother at the same time who was watching also and my mother said the classic line "He's demonized, you know" but she still watched the show. lol

I love Penn and Teller's way of revealing magic tricks, it's more fun:
