I'm disconcerted by the level of support voiced here for Russia's chilling suppression of basic freedoms. No one--not Moonies, not Seventh Day Adventists, not JWs--should be subjected to this level of oppression. Russia persecutes JWs today, and tomorrow it will be Mormons or Buddhists or homosexuals or...hmm, Jews maybe? Anyone care to remember events from WWII Germany? Who are any of us to decide who should be entitled to fundamental human rights? Take it away from anyone--and you take it away from everyone.

There are legitimate ways to shed light on cults or other kinds of organizations that cause problems, but denying due process and resorting to physical abuse isn't among them. This report is nothing to be cheered.

This is from one of the links provided in the OP.

Education departments appear to be following a particular line of investigation. A 9 February Mostovskoi (Krasnodar Region) District Education Department letter to local head teachers requests information by 5 March on "interference by religious - including Jehovah's Witness - organisations in the teaching process at educational institutions, enticement of minors into the activity of religious organisations without the knowledge of parents or guardians, cases of refusing blood transfusions or other treatment to minors, other violations of pupils' rights by members of and participants in religious organisations."

Part of the investigation into the religion is preaching to kids without parental consent. I can fully understand why this is a concern and being investigated.

No one can take away your right to worship GOD. You can worship HIM when you lay down, when you wake, and at anytime during the day. GOD is in your thoughts, and you make public declaration by the way you live your life. Do you think GOD wants you to subject yourself to torment by displaying your beliefs in public? You worship in secret and are rewarded in secret just the same......you can easily visit with your friends in the comfort of your own home or theirs.Obey the law and do not spread propaganda as they are calling it.
