How Old is Too Old to have Children?

    Physical answer (objective):

    • Menopause.
    • Erectile dysfunction.
    • Infertility.

    Ethical answer (subjective):

    • When you can't financially support them.
    • When you no longer possess the physical and emotional capabilities to manage the rigors of childrearing.
    • When you are near enough to the end of your expected lifespan that you would die before they become adults.
    • When your age poses serious risks to conceiving a child (i.e., Trisomy 21 caused by maternal age--a medical fact that hasn't changed, despite advances in fertility medicine).

    Please add:

    • When your uterus falls apart during delivery, when at an age beyond 50, you decide to try to have your first baby. (I've seen this.)
