We didn't have field trips IIRC, so I didn't miss out on those.
After-school activities can be important to a child's physical health, social skills, lots of things...maybe this is one reason why dubs have such difficulty mastering manners.
Looking back I think the restrictions on class participation did me a lot more harm than restricting after-school activities, even though I see the importance of both.
