A Question of Conscience by Charles Davis, while Davis was never as high up in the RCC as Ray was in the WT, his views on the RCC parallel Ray's in so m any ways, it is quite interesting to say the least ( A bit of a dry read though).

The Oxford Commentary on the Bible, I think everyone that studies the bible needs a few good commentaries, to say the least, this is a pretty good one.

The Jesus I never knew, by Philip Yancey.

The Order of Things by Michel Foucault was good too because it made me come to believe all knowledge is contingent on context and serves a purpose. Rather than asking if something is true in an absolute sense I now tend to ask what interest does it serve for something to be accepted as true.

Slim - Does this translate into you being a very pragmatic person, or does it mean you have a great interest in abstract things? (Please forgive my question, if it doesn't make sense. I'm not exactly certain how to word what I'm trying to ask.)

Blondie and PSacramento -- Thank you for those suggestions. I've read "Gentile Times" and I own "Sign of the Last Days".

    1) "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey

    2) "First Things First" by Stephen Covey

    3) "The 5 Love Languages" by Dr. Gary Chapman

    4) "Crisis Of Conscience" by Ray Franz

    5) "Combatting Cult Mind Control" by Steven Hassan

I would also like to read Steven Hassan's "Releasing the Bonds" as I would really like to help my aging father figure out how to go forward now that he can no longer perform as a 'witness'.

    My picks:

    1984 - George Orwell

Brave New World - Aldous Huxley

    Animal Farm - George Orwell

The Power of Myth - Joseph Campbell

    Gulliver's Travels - Jonathan Swift

Together, these books explain the human condition better than anything else I've ever read.

    Parakeet,

I should have my book finished sometime in my lifetime. Or perhaps the next one.
