Do You Think the Power Grid Will Go Down?

I am sure this will happen sooner than later and its not going to take a war to shut us down.

John Doe, asked a very silly question about living without power.

If he had ever been through a Hurricane in Florida.....let me tell you, its the most miserable experience in the world.

Time slows to a crawl. There is no coffee in the morning, no news, no laundry, no cooling. If you happen to have your own septic system at least you have flushing toilets. There is no hot water, no way to cook, you survive on peanut butter, chips, and bottled water....if you happened to stock up ahead of time.

The streets begin to stink with rotting vegitation, mesquitoes take over, and the air is heavier then those weights in the gym. You can't breathe, and if you move you just create more heat and sweat. It is literally the most miserable thing you have ever experienced.

I am sure each area of the country has their own list of miseries.

It would be the perfect way to attack the U.S. because none of us know how to deal with life without power.

Why anyone would assume that our antiquated power grid is ready for a cyber attack is beyond me.

Best bet, go get a generator!

It is livable restrangled. People lived here forty and fifty years ago you know. I can get used to the heat. You can too, you are just soft from the comforts of modernity. We had no AC when I was really little. Think of this, Summer School with no AC. Imagine it. I remember it. You get used to it and you adapt and don't even think about it any more. My dad lived his whole childhood that way. We have gotten very dependent on conveniences. Old Florida homes were built different from the newer post-AC stuff for a reason. There were breezeways, terazzo floors, raised wood subfloors, crawl spaces under the house, jalousie windows, heavy curtains.....

    Don't generators require gasoline?

If electric is out, won't the gas pumps be shut down?

If this is a planned event, I would expect that only those willing to compromise integrity and in some way pledge loyalty to the ruling faction "New System" would be allowed to have power. (I don't think even that would happen anytime soon; not until they had been made to 'suffer enough'.) And it may be that they will all have to move to a certain area to be able to have power. Maybe the cooperative people will be confined. that leaves the rest of us wide open to be.....* *

    wha happened?

yes gas pumps shut down. After the northridge earthquake I had to drive until my car nearly ran out of gas to buy gas.

It can be devestating. Back in the early 80's, the entire westside of Los Angeles went black. No street lights or anything. That's like the city of Chicago going black. It lasted into the night so no major crime sprees, but if it went to the next day, I'm sure there would of

oh I hated the day after. NO Power, water or gas. A few places had food. We had nothing. I found an open market and I remember hesitating because I had not bathed nor a toothbrush grazed my teeth. I walked in because on observation, neither had anyone else. The bagel shop gave away everything for free. It was like that for three days and then life began to normalize

I don't like how my disposition turns when I'm disconnected ...

    Am I alone?

    CoCo

    No.

I could not get JWN for two days in a row. It was briefly up a couple of times but then went to "page not found" again. Rather disconcerting.

I depend on internet for my news behind the news.

Even with JWs there are a lot of information leaks. So you know that is going on in all religious arenas and political fields as well.

All the more reason to pull the plug.

We just had sabotage in my area today (not the power grid but communications), crippling 9-11 and other services locally.

    Wow, Leolaia!

    That's awful...and scary, too.

This was a professional hit...it certainly wasn't pranksters. It required a certain level of sophistication in knowledge and equipment.

I do wonder....what was the motive in this?

Well if things get really bad know who your local Mormons are..... some of ours have YEARS worth of provisions.

Whether this ever happens in our lifetime or not.... I think it is always good to have a level of self sustainability.

You can create your own energy to power your house and even your car.

Having a garden never hurt anyone either.

OMG it is sooo late.... goodnight Yall!
