Greetings and Happy New Year (here's hoping):

Are you aware of any comments in WT publications that disallow for an extinction level event? Obviously, this would be apart from the declaration made by Will Durant:

Civilization exists by geological consent, subject to change without notice.

    Thank you,

I don't think they would. They like to tell themselves that Jehovah and his will are in control of everything. A random mechanistic event would upset their applecart. If one did occur, they would re-frame it as His Will.

I do believe the WTS uses Revelation 11:18 to say that God would not allow the earth to be destroyed.

*** w05 12/1 p. 4 Armageddon—A Happy Beginning ***What about the claim that Armageddon will be a holocaust involving weapons of mass destruction or a collision with a celestial body? Would a loving God allow such a horrific end to humankind and their home, the earth? No. He expressly states that he did not create the earth "simply for nothing" but "formed it even to be inhabited." (Isaiah 45:18; Psalm 96:10) At Armageddon, Jehovah will not ruin our globe in a cataclysmic conflagration. Rather, he will "bring to ruin those ruining the earth."—Revelation 11:18.

    Thank you, Nathan and Blondie:

That pretty well sums it up! At least we know the "official" and immutable Law of the Tower.

    Gratefully,

Yeah, we're safe now! Jehovah's gonna put a band-aid on the Yellowstone caldera.

The scriptures say that the "last days" will be as in the days of Noah.

The flood was supposed to be an extinction level event.

Doesn't that open the door for such a possibility?

JWism allows for very, very little outside of their doctrine. Its a box, and a small one at that.

The flood was supposed to be an extinction level event.

Not according to the WTS since 8 people and numerous animals survived and thrived on the earth shortly after the flood.

Extinction level event does not necessarily mean the complete annhilation of everything.

But that is how the WTS would respond to it. Actually according to the Bible by the time of Noah's great-grandson Nimrod's generation, there were quite a lot of people and civilization on the earth and that Noah and his son Shem were still alive. Quite a bounce back from only a few people and animals.
