I'd send a letter to 25 Columbia Heights pretending to be a Bible study!

PS-Leo--ty for the link. I think you just saved me $29.99. Now I don't have to get a book! I will finish reading it later. -

Here is a recent disseration on Roman Mithraism:
https://bora.uib.no/bitstream/1956/2229/1/Dr._Avh._%20Jonas_Bjoernebye.pdf
And this is a very interesting site on research on Mithraism by noted scholars:
http://www.clas.canterbury.ac.nz/ejms/
Check out the FAQ on Mithraism, which among other things shows the importance of distinguishing the Iranian cult of Mithra from the Roman Mithras cult which had only a tenuous connection with it. And note this comment:
"Further, very little of what you read in web-sites and books about the cult of Mithras is 'true' in the sense of being securely based on archaeological evidence. The trouble is that such evidence is simply not transparent, it has to be interpreted, and there is practically no limit to the fantasies of scholars. David Ulansey is a case in point: a fantastic tower of nonsense, speculation piled on speculation, unremittingly promulgated on the internet and sold as 'the truth about the cult of Mithras'. You would do well to take everything you read with a large pinch of salt."

Have any of you read about this, and can you recommend a credible book about this? I see lists on Amazon and Wikipedia but I was wondering which ones are good.
I do see lots of web sites but I'm kind of skeptical about their sources/accuracy....not that anything this old has a lot of proof laying around anyway. I've known about it for about 15 years. I had a book by a Greek girl dealing with all of the Christ before Jesus. I dont know where it is at the moment. I dont know how reliable any of the information is. Probably as reliable as the information that there was a Jesus Christ in Israel. There is no eye witness evidence or testimony that Jesus Christ existed, not even in his own book the bible. The hole Jesus story is tied in with Astrology the 12 movements of the sun or months of the year. The dying of the earth winter and the ressurection Spring. They say Hercules was born of God and a virgin. They say Krishna was a messiah before Jesus. There is disinformation in the world to keep us sheeplike and ignorant to what is going on. Truth is where you find it. -

Rebel8,
There is a documentary about folks that have the same or very similar story to Jesus centuries before Jesus was born. It includes Mithras. It was quite interesting. I believe is available via google video. I'm going to see if I find a link.
Edit to add: Here's the link. Its called 'The hidden story of Jesus',

Zorostrianism is an interesting study. The romans fixated on merely one character out of the whole iranian religion, mithras, and made it their own. Then, they switched fixations, this time to the jewish, jesus. Italians are funny, like that;) To this day, still fixated, they have the pope. At least he's alive and mostly well. They just keep replacing him, as needed.

And some of us Italians fixate on other divine beings...like Gina Lollobrigida.
Saoshyant is an interesting parallel. Not too sure how his mother sitting in a lake plays into this symbolically, but its no surprise that this monkey can appreciate her being described as not having associated with men. Its easy to see though how some people can begin to stretch things.
I myself briefly wondered at the coincidental ( Or isn't it? ) 30 years time that passed before the mom taking the dip and the beginning of the Final Battle.

Thanks again for all the links. I just viewed everything. I was expecting the list of things in the op to be debunked but they weren't.
What a great video! I highly recommend it for exiting jws. wts teaches they are pretty much the center of human history and the entire universe, their religion is nothing like any other, and it's totally original. This is a great way to deprogram, seeing how many very similar beliefs predate Jesus Christ. -
