I had to laugh at the comment above about elders thinking they were Jim Rockford. In my former congregation there were an elder that conducted himself like he was a real private eye. Once when a man in the congregation was going through a judicial investigation, this elder went so far in his investigation to interview the non-witness employees that worked for this man searching for evidence.

As for me - perhaps I was a victim of a virtual stakeout?

The elder son of the PI elder mentioned above had a habit of doing Internet searches on Witnesses to look for evidence of wrong doing. We used to work together and he would occasionally call me into his office to show me sisters he found with personal ads on Yahoo personals.

When the elders became suspcicious of me this elder son began monitoring my personal blog - printing off page after page of blog entries to attempt to build a case against me for apostasy. When I moved my blog, I believe he contacted me using a false name borrowed from a character in one of those CSI programs and asking for my new blog address. If so, that is pretty funny - perhaps he saw himself as someone from CSI conducting an investigation?

As a side note - these printouts of my blog entries were not only used for my judicial case but for a secular court case. When I first started blogging I made the mistake of writing about my work. Although my blog was for family and friends I didn't appreciate what can happen when you write about work issues on the Net. When the owner of the company I worked started going through a divorce, the above mentioned elder supplied his wife with copies of blog entries were I written about work. The printouts came to be used during the court hearings though they didn't really containing anything of real importance.

There was another related experience about computer investigations that I can share. A friend of mine, who once was an elder, related how they had suspected two young men in the congregation of looking at Internet pornography. They went to the home of the first young man and confiscated his computer to search for evidence - which they found and took judicial action against him. The second young man refused to turnover his computer and if I remember right they took judicial action against for insubordination or strong circumstancial edvidence or something like that.

Good Lord! Was this the Pol Pot East congregation? That's just nuts!

I live in a State that has the Castle Doctrine. I would like to believe that the local hounders wouldn't try something this stupid.

Back in Albuquerque, brother Kikta used to stake out the Pussycat theatre out on Central. It was near the Highland Congo and he was always looking to catch someone in there. I wonder if it was just an excuse to cruise for some male company....LOL He actually did catch this gay guy that was studying. The guy would cruise and then toot someones horn out in the parking lot. When this poor kid was exoposed it made him almost kill himself from the shame of having someone stalk him. I wonder if that crap would get an elder tossed into jail now?

The kid came back to the hall on a Sunday afternoon and threw confetti all over Kikta during the talk. When we looked closely it was the NWT cut into perfect little one inch squares. That was some focus!

Whew! Love this story: my friend was married to a guy who fooled around ALL the time with other women. She had her daughter with her and was pregnant with her second child when she pulled up to the house of the lady her husband was messing around with and knocked on the door. The lady opened the door and she could see up the staircase where her husband was coming out of a bedroom tucking in his shirt and jipping his jeans back up.

This wan't proof to the elders however. She gave up on the marriage because of the infidelity and met a really sweet guy and married him. Don't you think she was free according to Jehovah? Thats all she cared about!!!! So what other proof did she need more than catching the guy getting dressed coming out of the ladies bedroom? video tape of them actually screwing? And of course...she got df'd for adultery!!! as they said she wasn't free to remarry after her divorce as she had no proof that he had been unfaithful. One of the reasons I got tired of the whole thing. My friend is out too. We talk about going back from time to time... but never do.

I was present when volunteers were sought for a Keystone Cops Stakeout.

For some reason my hand didn't go up.

On another occasion, the BOE was alerted to the suspected nefarious nocturnal activities of two single, consenting adults in our congo. The report came from an envious "40 year old virgin" who needed sexual release but chose the wrong church for that. We told him we're not police or private investigators and that unless there's the testimony of two credible witnesses he should just head on home and watch re-runs of Charlie's Angels.

Ok, everything up to the re-runs part is true.

The 40-year-old virgin got pissed off at the BOE and told the CO. The CO backed up the BOE and STILL nothing was done about this horrendous crime.

The consenting adults eventually moved in together and were DFed.....

    for a while. Woo-hoo.

The 40-year old virgin is now a 50-year-old virgin as far as I know.

when I was an elder, I heard of stories about elders staking out the area strip clubs. Or, maybe that was the stories about the elders researching the area strip clubs.

This whole thread made me think of a recent email I received. Maybe I can can give someout there some ideas to play with.......

    HOW TO STOP CHURCH GOSSIP

Mildred, the church gossip, and self-appointed monitor of the church's
morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused Frank, a new member, of
being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the
    town's only bar one afternoon.

She emphatically told Frank (and several others) that everyone seeing it
there would know what he was doing. Frank, a man of few words, stared at
her for a moment and just turned, and walked away. He didn't explain,
defend, or deny... He said nothing.

Later that evening, Frank quietly parked his pickup in front of Mildred's
house... walked home... and left it there all night!!!

    You gotta love Frank.
