Don't lean upon your own understanding ...

The WBTS keeps trying to cram Proverbs 3:5,6 down the throats of its members lately. I have no doubt that within the next couple of years it will be the year's text.

I noticed that in the September "public" Watchtower, they equate higher education with the badness of illegal drugs, social websites, and fornication. There will be a negative end to higher education, this magazine stresses.

Yeah Witnesses are real against this "thinking for yourself" stuff.

The irony is that you are expected to use your power of reason in order to arrive at the view that the Witnesses have the "truth" in the first place. It is only thereafter that your own thoughts are to be distrusted in favour of an outside authority, namely the Watchtower organization.

So it's a really shallow way of looking at things they have, if you give it a minute's thought.

Cult, cult, cult. Sad really, when people are taught that they can't trust the workings of their own minds.

If nobody posts it during the day today, I will try to grab a scan tonight. You can also probably get the MP3 version from the official Watchtower site. I believe it is the article referencing The End Afterward or something like that. er

It is rather pathetic how the Watchtower cherry-picks the experiences it wishes to highlight regarding JWs attaining a higher education. I remember traveling overseers demagoguing the issue by highlight the most sordid experiences immaginable: The meek little Ministerial Servant who goes off to college only to wind up as a gay porn star. The sweet little Pioneer sister who goes to college and ends up as a sex slave in the Hell's Angels. The chaste theocratic couple who go to college together and end up as cocaine using swingers in San Francisco.

As far as the verse is concerned regarding "leaning upon one's understanding"; who's understanding was the Watchtower leaning upon when they proclaimed 1925 as the end of this system of things? Who's understanding was J.F. Rutherford leaning on when he told young people back in the 1940s not to get married or have children? God's? Michaels? Beelzebub's? The roll of a dice?

No one has "leaned upon one's own understanding" more than the Watchtower leadeship. But, I suppose as long as they have a two-thirds majority vote, they are channeling Jehovah. Which begs the question: are those who voted in the minority considered apostates for dissenting from the majority opinion?

    (Proverbs

3:5-6)5 Trust in Jehovah with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding. 6 In all your ways take notice of him, and he himself will make your paths straight.

.. okay clearly that scripture needs a WTS revision:

Trust in Jehovah's spirit-directed earthly organization with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding. 6 In all your ways take notice of those taking the lead, and Jehovah himself will reveal through his faithful and discreet slave the ways to make your paths straight.

Trusting in that Almighty Baghead Scumbag is absolutely the stupidest thing anyone can do. If He wants your life to end in celibacy, He is damn sure going to make sure it does--and all the trusting in that Almighty Freeloader will not do a damn thing to change His plan for that. If He wants you to be poor, you will be poor. If He wants you to have questions without answers to "test" your faith right up to the very end of your life, He will make damn sure it happens.

At least my own understanding might provide a way out of this. That is, if Jehovah doesn't get pxxxed because of envy and sabotage your efforts to escape the stagnation trap He wants for you. At least He hasn't been able to stop me from getting my own answers about the scriptures and what His nefarious plans really are.

Despite His every attempt to throw up a smokescreen and blame me for His getting in my way of true happiness.

Humour me for a moment: As we all know, we can look at any situation in a positive way or a negative way. Just because some poor man went to college and ended up in gay porn doesn't mean a thing. Most don't end up in gay porn when they go to college, unless anyone wants to make a confession here. I understand that books are quite expensive.... And who's to say that this person would not have ended up 'out of the truth' even if he didn't go to college. My point being that many people have went to college and have not turned out into gay pornstars. One would have to be quite an idiot to believe that this could be they're fate if they left 'the truth' for college.

Now, is the story really true? Of course it isn't. Witnesses love to embelish.
