Actually, Simon announced yesterday that he has temporarily disabled the registration function. That's probably contributing to the decrease in newbies, too. (Smug, smart-alec response with no implication of comment on the drama of the past few days.) -Aude.

I'm actually glad to hear that. Hoping this place will get back to normal soon.

I think they left before carefully reading Simon's posts. He was fed up with hijacking and porn talk and pix.

...oh, it's a little more than that...

Some of us read him very carefully. Since I am no longer allowed to post casual references to my relationships ("what me and my partner did last night"), while everyone else can, I don't know how I can participate in conversation.

It's sad he made it into a double-standard - regarding off-topic, sexualized remarks (straight men can still do this to women), regarding acknowledgement of familial relationships, regarding what he chooses to be tolerant of.

Would you feel welcome after: "No wonder people hate gays and find them incredibly annoying...I am now seriously rethinking it and will no longer be the tollerant fool that I was"? Do you expect me to stay in such a place where the owner clearly has issues?

A lot are leaving because of all the drama that has occured. This site was an escape for me, but turns out to be no different than in JW land. I understand fully not wanting porn of any kind being posted, but to single certain ones out is wrong.

I understand this is Simon's site and he can do as he pleases, but he wants the posters here to respect him, then he needs to respect others. I saw where he replied to one newbie and called her a f*cking dumb bitch. That was SO uncalled for IMO!!!!

I believe (hope) this was out of character for him in light of what he has said in the past.

Check out the Simon's past comments.

Why are so many leaving? Good question.

I'm not taking sides, but I'm not losing my friends either. This is not a show of any kind of solidarity on my part, but it was good to see so many posters' true feelings. When just a handful of people can take a site down to the depths it has been too, it sad.

Hijacking threads was getting annoying. There were a handful of people doing this and they had an agenda with Simon. Simon took their bait, which is really sad because I thought more of Simon before than I do now.

Sometimes it's good to take a break from all things JW related.

I don't think it's a case that people leave for good. This board seems to go down different roads from week to week, month to month. One week it may be politics, another such as this week gay issues take the main agenda, next week it will be a different subject. Some get offended, some do not. I think when people leave, most inevitably come back when they lurk and see that other issues are at the fore front of the message board.

For me, i get out of the board what i want to get from it and leave the rest. I haven't posted on the gay threads, mainly because i do not want to be caught up in the argument going back and forth. So this week my posts have been less than previous weeks.

I think that for many long time posters, some weeks you find you want to post, others you don't. It doesn't mean you have left, just taking a bit of a step back, until these issues pass, which they inevitably will.

I have to admit that the way things were going on this forum ... if my wife ever decided to start researching outside the organization - I would NEVER let her view this forum. It would scare her back into the Kingdom Hall. I'm serious!

There's always some fresh new debacle in Internet-forum-land for people to get their panties in a bind over. Makes life more interesting for them, I guess.

As far as people leaving for other, personal reasons, good for them. Not because they're leaving, but because they don't need the support of JWD anymore. The support is more than likely what brought them here in the first place, and if they don't need it anymore, that's great. It means they're ready to MOVE ON WITH THEIR LIVES, which is more important that virtual interaction.

I disagree with everything you're saying Dorktacular. In fact, I can't stay here and listen to this anymore. Therefore, I am leaving this board. Goodbye, forever.
