I think a lot of times our posts to each other would be more "humane" if our post concluded with a little box which contained our actual face (photo) instead of simply going on the avatar.
Avatar's (imho) depersonalize our interactions.
Avatars are okay for incognito faders, of course, for obvious reasons. However, for the rest of us--we are just people talking to other people and it sure is darned nice to see a real person with an actual face!!
Just my ragged two cents.
