I always sing the Beatles' "Good Night" to get my baby asleep. Works everytime. What did you sing to your kids?

now, here comes a very bad confession. because i was raised in dub land i never got to know all the traditional lullabies, but i do know Eminem (the white rapper) does his own version of mockingbird... so i'm there, singing the chorus to a 'vulgar' rap song, and when it gets to the bit where eminem says 'and if that mockingbird dont sing, and that ring dont shine, imma break that birdy's neck' i end up mumbling at that bit. haha

selectively sang lyrics from Turn Around, as i had sons too!

Where are you going, my little one, little one
Where are you going, my baby, my own?
Turn around and you're two, turn around and you're four
Turn around and you're a young girl going out of my door

    Turn around, turn around
Turn around and you're a young girl going out of my door
    Turn around, turn around
Turn around and you're a young wife with babes of her own

my now 23 YO son bawled his eyes out one night,
when he was 5, saying he was nevr gonna leave

i told him no one expected a 5 YO to be ready
to pack a bag and move along....
but when he was 18 we would talk

also sang brahms lullabye and some of the lyrics from "Spider's Web"

    Down in the valley,
    There is a mission
Down by the old oak tree
    Down by the mission,
    There is a fountain
    Where my love told me:

    There's a web like a spider's web
Made of silver light and shadows
Spun by the moon in my room at night
It's a web made to catch a dream
Hold it tight 'til I awaken
As if to tell me my dream is all right
(the rest of the song is about being wanted for murder!!!)

the only vid i could find... the tune is quite magical at night

"Hush Little Baby" and this song (I don't know the name of it):

I love you (insert child's name)

    oh yes I do

I love you (insert child's name)

    and I'll be true

    when you're not near me

    I'm blue

Oh (insert child's name) I love you

I sang that song to each of my children, they all loved it. I know it was not the song but the sound of my voice.

"Go to sleep my little baby, go to sleep my little girl.

    Mama see you in the mornin', when the sun shines on the world."{TM}

    Yes, I absolutely did make this up while standing over her crib one night. She would well up and start to cry a little. Could have been the melody. {perhaps i'll sing it on mic soon}

She's sixteen now. But my pitbull loves the song!!

Used to sing the Irish Lullaby (toora loora loora), and now my daughter sings it to her children.

Over in Killarney, many years ago,
Me mother sang a song to me, in tones so sweet and low.
Just a simple little ditty in her good old Irish way,
And I'd give the world if she could sing that song to me this day.

    CHORUS:

Toora loora loora, toora loora lal,
Toora loora loora, hush now don't you cry.
Toora loora loora, toora loora lal,
Toora loora loora, that's an Irish lullaby.
